Re: Five minutes of fame

Indeed,

I noted that the fish courses on a restaurant menu I espied once came under the heading
"Poisons"......

Doubtless an O ring had failed on some piece of cookery gizmo, so it was probably apposite.

Re: Five minutes of fame

Perhaps heat and the quality of rubber has something to do with it. Given that Poisson's ratio of rubber is 1, on heating the rubber O ring will try to expand in all directions without any volume change. On cooling it should revert to its previous shape and state of stress which is dependent, inter ...

Re: Cowes comes north

I've never herd of that before, a moooot point over recovery. Its a case of dead meat. Surprised it hasn't been fined for non-payment of harbour fees, or littering. Perhaps the authorities and local burghers have no beef over it.

Re: So where are we all lifting out this year?

We're due to be lifted out at Balcardine Marine this week, having spent the last 5 winters at Ardrossan. We were very happy at Ardrossan, could not find fault, good transport, an Asda, a brilliant yard foreman in Peter, good price etc etc, however, with one thing and another, we have just not had th...

Shard wrote "agreed, but the funny thing is that it's almost as bad in a NW wind, particularly at half flood and more. The land to the NW is very low lying so doesn't provide" (sending this from a not so smart phone) Many many years ago, (before acquiring my undoubted skills as a brilliant...

Re: Unidirectional handbrake

I had a Peugeot once that had combined disc/drum brakes at the rear, (drum for the handbrake) and the hand brake was generally useless except for a short time after new disc/drums/pads/shoes/handbrake cable etc were fitted. With the "shoe expander" at the bottom, the rearmost shoe becomes ...

Re: Cruise liner aground in Oban Bay

. . . or switched off the AIS? I would have hoped that the use of the word "apparently" would have protected me from an apparent charge of naivety! I am surprised they didn't switch off the AIS the minute it hit bottom. Of course I believe everything on Blue Moment, a very fine website &a...

Jessail in Ardrossan took our old one off & used it as a template and fitted the new one on. Very satisfied. This is a few years ago now. Circa 500 pounds.
