Re: It flies! BlueMoment burgee in Puilladobhrain

I have no strong opinions about it and am not even slighly critisizing, however I would have thought that the burgee shuold be flown on the port side, always thought the starboard side was reserved for a courtesey

Re: Saltire

Be careful chaps, I played the devils advocate some time ago on the subject of flag etiquette and ended up with a bollocking all round even from t' management.

Think it was a class thing.

Swallows are back

Seen a swallow today in Lancashire, a bit earlier than past few years, hope its another sign of a good summer.

Just a single one, which will most probably be a male, they come first and often singly at first.

Lakeland coal

I have a solid fuel stove on Dark Island, it will burn charcoal and peat OK, however the very best fuel for it is a product called Lakeland coal produced by a firm in Lancaster and sold in winter by a local NW supermarket called Booths. Normally I stock up for the season from Booths, However this ye...

Re: Gordon Brown - Geography lesson?

Well acshully, I think it is right and proper that the leader of our country remarks and comments on significant events in our country. After all it is part of his job description to do so, as figurehead and leader. I'm sure that if he'd said nothing that the moaners wold be moaning about how he'd ...

[quote=" or are the frogs at it ? how long should i cook it in a pressure cooker ? does it taste anything like cod roe ?[/quote] Frogs taste more like chicken and should be cooked as chicken in the pressure cooker, but make sure you put plenty in because they reduce to nowt after cooking, very ...

Re: Spring is around the c orner

Maybe you will be proved right over the summer to come, we shall see! However the abundance of frogs spawn was on Kerrera and they have had a dry winter, or a dryer winter than normal would be more correct. Frogs are not normally retrospective creatures they look forward to predict what spawn they l...

Re: What Gas

The camping Gaz bottles are all smaller than the Butane bottles, but they are much more expensive, the price varies I paid more than £19 last year for Gaz last year, £13 for butane and found that some retailers were stopping selling them because of the price, the Ironmongers in Tobermory for one. Wi...

Re: Who has a pressure cooker onboard

My cooker is a 'Prefect plus' made in Germany, much easier and safer to use than the old fashioned ones with weights etc. Bit pricey but a good bit o kit.

I too like to cook and of course drink along, but cooking pigs trotters and mushy peas on board would be impossible without a pressure cooker.

Re: What Gas

Don't toss the camping Gaz bottles/setup. If you're ever going abroad, you'll want to change back again! Aye I have realised that, I use them in my camper van in any event, but have left a bottle and regulator on board in case of emergency. What I'm more interested in is the comparative efficiency ...

What Gas

Last year I converted Dark Island to Butane from the camping Gaz, I had thought that the bigger bottles would give me a size problem in the aft locker, however with a little engineering it worked out quite well. The reason I changed was not only the cost but also the availability of Gaz, some outlet...

Who has a pressure cooker onboard

I think that for extended cruising and living onboard for weeks on end a pressure cooker is an essential bit o kit.
