I can confirm what Chard sez in his reply, I have found that the Martin Lawrence books are mostly what I use for sailing directions even though I carry the CCC directions I only use them rarely. This year I invested in new Martin Lawrence's but apart from my old ones falling apart it was a waste of ...

I had Owen sails make me a new set of sails last year and they were absolutely brilliant. I researched and priced with all the sail makers I knew in Scotland, there wasn't much in the quoted prices only the sailmaker in Tarbert (forgot the name) was a bit cheaper. The thing that swung it for me was ...

I have been with O2 for the past few years and whilst I can usually get a signal around most of coastal areas of western Scotland there is a few places I cant get a signal at all. Usually up a Loch surrounded by hills . None at all up Lochaline and not a lot up Loch Craignish where I keep my boat. I...

Visited Salen Bay a year or two ago, didn't have any trouble anchoring, but went ashore t get some bread and called for a pint in the hotel. Its the ONLY time in 9 years sailing in western Scotland I have felt like an outsider. The bar was unfriendly bordering on rude and threatening. Never been bac...

Avon skin so soft does work for us, always carry it on the boat and have no problem getting it from an Avon rep in this country. Think that Avon in USA have caught on that the stuff is bought for midge repellent, but we use the original oh so soft. Using it in Inverie recently made a walk ashore bea...

Aluminium setscrews

When fitting my mainsail this year, I stripped the threads in the mast on the gate that holds in the runners. I increased the size of the threads and fitted a stainless setscrew temporarily. Understanding that I should change this to an alloy screw as soon as poss. However on returning to Lancashire...

Oban pontoons

I was up in Oban last week and picked up a bit of gossip about a plan to install pontoons by the esplanade. When on Kerrerra I noticed that they have started work at extending the pontoons as part of the ongoing investment. Does anyone know what is happening with the Oban town pontoons, is it a real...

Tony Cox

Heyup,

Tony and Lisa Cox spent some 2 or 3 years managing Oban Yachts on Kerrerra. They have left now and and far as I know gone back to Aberdeen from whence they came.

The boat Dreamcatcher was for sale the last I knew. Dont know wether it was sold or not.
