Re: Puffers

I had to laugh when I heard (twice) the puffers described as ocean-going.

Interestingly, I think that the rise in aquaculture, renewable energy systems and the like has led to the development of modern vessels which fill much the same ecological niche. See, for example, here.

Re: mm5aho

Interesting thing about news - how the message can get a slant through editing. I listened to what the other two said, and they were not really downbeat themselves, but after editing only the negative bits were shown. It's what passes for "balance" at the BBC these days. If they interview...

Re: Website proofreading time again

More pedantry from me: Home page, second line from the bottom: "At this particular moment in time" is a phrase that grates horribly on me. Quite apart from the fact that you cannot have moments in much other than time, it seems unnecessarily wordy. "At the moment", "At this ...

Re: Are you all bored with this forum?

No, but why are you "just asking"?

Like most forums there are times when it is busier than others, but a high frequency of posts is sometimes just noise, while things that I find relevant and interesting often emerge when the posting-rate is more sedate.

What kind of knot do you use to attach your caveats? Or can you get specially-designed caveat clips?

Re: Mobile Phone Coverage on the West Coast

There is a 3 mast on the bottom end of Mull which gives 3G coverage in that area (this is second hand info). As you can get some cards free and just, load them with £10 each, this year I plan to get a variety and test them. I have also been told that Virgin has arrangements with several carriers and...

Re: Oops

On tow to Belfast today, currently off Scarba. Are you sure about Belfast? The BBC news and the AIS on board the vessel and its escorts all say Greenock. No, not sure at all. I thought I'd read Belfast somewhere in an earlier report but just checked and in fact it said Liverpool.. Ho hum. "Dur...

I too changed from O2 to Vodafone and find it better for the Mull/Ardnamurchan area (no data, of course).

I think if he was planning to salute the good people of Kilchoan he should still have turned to port (and probably picked a better time than 01.50).

Re: Excellent Antares Charts.... BUT

I followed the instructions and it all seems to work, although I had cleared out the old files from both the desktop PC and the Android tablet before I started. Certainly easier than last year, when I had to download a new set of files for the tablet before MemoryMap would use them.

Now that we have had some of the real stuff, could it be time to turn off the virtual snowflakes?
