Re: A Change of Underpants Required After Entering Ardrossan Harbour

Having just read the MAIB report on the sinking of a moored yacht in Cowes by an out-of-control ferry see HERE, I wonder if there is anywhere in our neck of the woods where something similar might happen.

Re: Cleit cardinal and Claymore's Rock

Marking hazards makes it easier to keep a boat out of danger, but is that a good thing? Should standards of seamanship be such that unmarked hazards can always be easily avoided, even in fog and with the electronics down? Would it make the game more "sporting" to add more hazards (column ...

Re: Sad coincidence?

Sad to hear that. O tempori o mortes and all that. Your sentiments are laudable but your Latin is suspect. Cicero's often-quoted words "O tempora, o mores." mean "O the times! O the customs!", or more idiomatically "What times! What customs!" and have nothing to do wit...

Re: Petition

The geographical "heat map" is interesting, particularly if you set it to show percentage of the electorate rather than raw numbers.

Re: New Broadblue website

Assuming that you are being sarky, 1900 odd views doesn't seem to me to betoken a lack of interest. I don't think you should equate lack of response with lack of interest, either to this post or the site in general. I don't imagine I am the only regular visitor here who only posts when he thinks he ...

Re: Port Bannatyne update

The question being "Can you imagine sailing up the East Kyle in anything other than a Claymore.....?" Shame, I have great pics of that very activity in ideal conditions, but haven't done anything to replace photobucket yet... It's time these forum platforms caught up with the other soc me...

Re: Oban Bay Safety Improvement starts 22nd Oct

Calmac's published winter timetable has the first sailing from Craignure at 0900 (0800 on Mondays) and the last departure from Oban at 1600 (later at weekends). Has something changed? The Muileachs would be able to leave earlier and return later if they were willing to travel via Lochaline or Kilcho...

Re: New buoys for Oban Bay

I thought they had changed the lateral marks to cardinal ones to avoid confusing the occasional visitor who doesn't understand the direction of buoyage in Oban, so this might be a retrograde step.

Re: New website for Broadblue Catamarans

Might be worth saying where Emsworth is, e.g. Emsworth, Hampshire. Also I couldn't find any contact details for Broadblue themselves.

Snow

I don't recall the Forum snow lasting beyond the equinox into BST in years past. Is it to become a year-round attraction?

Re: Ignorance

Incredible! The Shetland people want their wind swept and barn islands shown correctly on maps, fair enough. However, a random selection of Scottish People in Edinburgh when asked where Shetland was and to point on a map, did not know and could not point to them on the map. I guess there is no poin...

Re: Edinburgh's hotel bed shortage solved

I think YBW may have changed the photo now, but the vessel with the funny paint job is indeed the Fingal. Story here https://www.1418now.org.uk/dazzle/ships/mv-fingal/
