Re: Are they getting dumber over at TOP???

Amongst the best reading in TOP over these long winter evenings has been the at times rancourous "Liveaboard Link" I have particularly enjoyed the long expositions about who is and who is not a UK resident in the eyes of the NHS http://www.ybw.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/2070557/...

Re: Are they getting dumber over at TOP???

people on internet forums make up seemingly very authoritative statements of "fact" (as against opinion) that are actually rubbish. Some will will acknowledge a "correct challenge", most will ignore it, and others will become very petulant about it being pointed out. Very wisely...

Re: Are they getting dumber over at TOP???

That's just Nigel's point of view Not really. He's specifically telling everyone what the law is - and he's wrong. Another classic TOP legal thread: http://www.ybw.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/2143793/an/0/page/0/gonew/1#UNREAD" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; How can people a...

Re: "The West" by Ronald Faux.

Sorry, I should have made it clearer that I wasn't advocating abandoning the CCC Sailing Directions or Martin Lawrence.

"The West" by Ronald Faux.

I'm p155ed.

I've had a fine Jalfreizi. (And for the first time in yonks left a tip.)

I'm dipping into one of my Xmas pressies, "The West" by Ronald Faux published in 1982.

I actually think it's better than the current CCC and Lawrence Cruising Guides.

Discuss.

Pity you didn't read the title

No it isn't. Even reading two words of that tripe would be a waste of time.

LOL. FLawless logic - you're right and I'm wrong.

In other news when I was a kid a bloke in our village told me off for putting a rock in a skip.

I heard he died last year.

That'll show him.

Re: In a mist

Interesting question. I crossed the channel in a gale a short while back. With a F8 behind me and bigish sea, surfing at 12 knots was not unusual slowing down didn't seem easy or desirable. (I'd rather surf at 12 than wallow at 4.) With spells of rain which dropped the viz to almost nothing, I confe...

Did Peary do it?

Always up to date with the latest hot topic, I'm wondering today if Peary got to the pole, or not. Frankly, I'm reckon he didn't. There seems some circumstantial evidence that he didn't get there and knew that he didn't. However, even if he thought he was there fair and square, with a position worke...

Re: Possibly but . . .

Can't help but think that early/late season a bareboat charter would be a fraction of the cost and a billion times more fun. It isn't aimed at the charter market - the keywords are 'sailing adventure holidays'. This is aimed at people who haven't sailed much if at all before and fancy a wee cruise ...

Mr Onslow, my old English teacher, used to insist we read Shute and IMHO it was very good. Haven't read anything by him since I was about 14. Never will 'cos I've given up on fiction. Happy memories though. Mr O also encouraged us to read Hornblower & Flambards. Funny how he knew what to recomme...
