Re: CHIRP 21

Well, my CHIRP report from last year has been published in the current "Feedback" - fame or what? The "anonymised" version appears on pp 5/6, a more explicit version is in my blog: http://www.yotblog.com/DaveS/3721/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for 30/07/08. Wi...

Re: Monty Hall's Great Escape

Windfinder, If you dont mind, I find this very blasphemous, would you mind toning it down a bit and consider other folks faiths, personally I cant see the need for using such blasphemy in the first place. Too late for me to remove it but if you remove your quote of it from your post maybe Nick can ...

Myth Busters - Sea Sickness.

Just watched "Myth Busters" on Discovery + 1. They were looking at Seasickness cures. One seemed to work with no side effects - ginger pill. So there you go - the old Ginger Biscuits thing might work after all. I'm sure I'm teaching people to suck eggs but I was talking to a Doctor a few y...

Re: Maw Broon 'racist'

And it doesn't stop there. Given the precedent of changing St. Petersburg to Leningrad, Manchester is being renamed Personchester And I hear Fan-y-Big is going to be renamed 'Front Bottom'. Meanwhile I'm watching Dam Busters to see a bloke climb off a Lancaster and shout "NIGGER!!!" at th...

Re: Martin Martin

A Description of the Western Islands of Scotland by Martin Martin is well worth reading, although perhaps not all at one sitting. Like Haswell-Smith's Scottish Islands , might be worthy of a place in the ship's library. James Thin of Edinburgh published a greatly treasured facsimile copy a few year...

Re: Martin Martin

I haven't read him but I wouldn't let Dr. Johnson's opinion put me off anything. Wasn't it he who said of oats "A grain, which in England is generally given to horses, but in Scotland appears to support the people."? :selfabuse :) I think I read it on here but didn't He point this out to ...

Martin Martin

According to Samuel Johnson, Martin Martin in his book, 'often suffered himself to be deceived'. Apparently SJ doesn't rate him at all.

So, Martin Martin. Worth a read?

"I doubt a local magistrate would fail to apply local laws so you would have to appeal to the state supreme court before the right to comity might be recognised. "

LOL! It gets better. You can't beat a bit if hysteria!

Re: "The West" by Ronald Faux.

Finished it now. Not so impressed with the whole as I was with a short read under the infuence of a heady cocktail of Cobra and Old Peculiar... What's there is very well written, informative and most importantly entertaining. SOme good photos. However he really doesn't visit much and just scratches ...
