I think non stop could reasonably be defined as "under way". I reckon so. In his book about his Saga sponsored 5 Oceans Race RKJ makes some rather defensive comments about his record which suggests to me he suspects the same. Perhaps the truth is that records are totally arbitary and we s...

First Man Around the World Non-Stop.

An old chestnut this, but in an effort to start a more controversial thread than ParaHandy's excellent Bishop thread I've had to call out the big guns: On the return leg Moitessier crossed his outward bound track before RKJ crossed his. RJK went aground in Otago Bay, and got off the boat to wade out...

No, it's brand new. The original Michief sank off Jan Mayen in the Artic Ocean Lat 71 in 1968 at the age of 62 years.

Phew. I knew Tillman wasn't 100 per cent accurate but I'd hoped he wouldn't invent his vessel sinking!

Shame, I liked the wild feel of having to walk to the Youth Hostel for a shower and a w**k!

Let's revisit this thread in a a while, once we've all had ACTUAL experience of the place/facilities, instead of all this negative conjecture. That goes for the locals as well... I'm not sure there is negative conjecture. Some decisions were made that seemed odd. The newspaper article makes all cle...

It would be prudent, I would suggest, to make plans to maintain the present levels of expenditure with a decrease in revenue. I am sure that the Institute's managers are actively doing this now, I certainly hope they are. The RNLI is secure for the forseeable. They're currently raising more than th...

I do get fed up with this attitude that things must somehow only create value, a rescue or tow should be justified in some way, a statue is a waste when it can buy 4 hospital beds, a park can buy a sub post office etc. When it comes to Charity surely value is everything. If charity a) saves 10 live...

In reality all nearby vessels who pick this up will then pull the power cable out of the radio to shut the ****ing alarm off.

Maybe the question will have to be asked - should they start to replace the big all weather lifeboats with helicopters, perhaps backed up by cheaper less capable boats to tow in broken down yachties. Or even better stop designing and building bespoke rescue vessels and just buy off the shelf heavy ...
