Westerly ... I swoon at the name

We bought a Westerly Falcon (33 feet, built 1986) in 2003 and we haven't regretted it at all. Michael, in case you didn't know, there are several websites dedicated to Westerlies: the Westerly Owners Association http://www.westerly-owners.co.uk/ the WOA yahoo site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/weste...

Unsettling news from Dunstaffnage

I heard today "The Wide Mouthed Frog is currently being refurbished with the toilets being the main focus..."

I do hope that exotic mural in the gents is safe. Does anyone know how to get a preservation order to secure the artwork for posterity?

I wasn't allowed out that far from home myself but I believe there was a very fine Westerly Pageant on show. Not for sale though.

We are still carrying the 35lb CQR but haven't felt the need to use itsince the Spade arrived. The boat came with a smaller CQR (25lb if I rmember right) and we are carrying that everywhere too, though it's never been used at all. There's no doubt that chain is vital to the whole operation. I have a...

First season with a spade

I've been tempted to contribute to other discussions on anchoring but felt nervous knowing how heated these discussions get. Among you gentlefolk, I feel confident of a more restrained response so here are my own recent observations. First some background. The present boat is a Westerly Falcon, 33 f...

I have no experience of it, but I believe transom mounting is used on some motorboats to avoid another hole in the hull. That could put the transducer right in the prop wash if you weren't careful. Presumably there's some advice from the manufacturers about that. Does anyone know more?

Thanks for the advice. We won't leave Oban until 22 or 23 July so we will miss the Festival of Sail. But we will be there during the first week of August so we might meet Shard.

Advice on charts for the Outer Hebrides

Friends, This summer's plan is a cruise up the east coast of the Outer Hebrides. We already have all the Imray charts of the area and I have made arrangements to get the Admiralty 1:100,000 charts 1794, 1795, 1796 (I don't plan to go further north than Stornoway). But now I have just received my Cly...
