Re: I never realised

Did they discuss distribution of the new guide at the meeting? They did distribute copies at the 28 March Oban Bay meeting and they said copies were going to Caledonian & Crinan canals and some local marinas. It has also been mentioned on the WHAM news but there's no sign of the new buoys in th...

Sad coincidence?

You can tell it's "avoid antifouling at all costs" time when I study the Deaths column of the Oban Times. Last Thursday's headlined with Nancy Black's death at 91. She founded, but hasn't run for a long time, the now-defunct chandlery in Oban. Further down the page the death is announced o...

Re: Help understanding my Annual Tax Summary (OT)

Maybe HMRC think that you overpaid in previous years. Have you recently started claiming a bit of your partner's tax free allowance? Ash I don't think either of those applies. Interestingly, Jane (SWMBO to her friends) received a very similar Annual Summary. On reflection, it's just possible that o...

Re: Help understanding my Annual Tax Summary (OT)

You think wrong. Oh no I don't https://www.gov.uk/scottish-income-tax/2017-to-2018-tax-year gives Band . . . . . . . . . . . Taxable income . . . . Scottish tax rate Personal Allowance . . Up to £11,500 . . . . . . .0% Basic rate . . . . . . . . £11,501 to £43,000. . . 20% Higher rate . . . . . . ....

Re: Help understanding my Annual Tax Summary (OT)

I think the rate for 2017-18 was 20% up to 40k odd, and the same as rest of UK.

My puzzles are:
Why is Scottish tax more than I paid?
Why is Basic rate tax (which is same as Scottish) more than I paid?

I seem to be better off than I should be so perhaps I should stay quiet.

Help understanding my Annual Tax Summary (OT)

I recently received the Notice of Coding for next year's Income Tax. All very understandable. In a commendably economical move, HMRC included in the same envelope my Annual Tax Summary for 2017-18. That's where the problem lies in a trivial yet annoying way. My income tax is pretty simple: State pen...

Re: Feck me it's windy

The good news is that the Oban pontoons seem to be still all in order. I had expected them to be taken away each winter but they are obviously sturdier than that. And today (wind about F4/5 SW) the water inside the breakwater pontoon was a lot smoother than outside. The bad news is that the ketch th...

Re: Oban Bay Harbour Authority - developments

Trust Ports may not be a good idea if this article in Wiki is anything to go by and the alleged nepotistic, self serving shysters of the Oban area, whom could be reasonably expected to serve their own needs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trust_port There's no doubt that it needs careful composing b...

Re: Oban Bay Harbour Authority - developments

There's to be yet another public meeting, 7pm, Thursday 28 March in the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, Breadalbane Street, Oban. A new body has been formed, Oban Community Harbour Development Association, which hopes to implement a Trust Port. Calmac still aren't keen on that but the Council and NLB a...

Changes in Oban Bay?

According to their website http://www.obanharbour.scot/navigation-marine-safety/navigation/ links to Code of Practice and Leisure Guide, there are new lateral buoys in the North Channel and the Corran Ledge cardinal has gone. Will a stranger entering for the first time be at ease with red on the rig...

Re: Fender board

I use standard t&g floorboard as I had some lying about. 6ft is a good length, but make sure you can store it and retrieve it easily. I think mine are about 4ft to easily get into the cockpit locker.

Re: Rotovector

I vaguely remember a DIY version described on the web more than 10 years ago. A bit of digging found this http://web.archive.org/web/20111022163351/http://home.alphalink.com.au/~derekw/anemometer_diy/anemain.htm and the drawing of the sensor http://web.archive.org/web/20091009075410/http://home.alph...
