Should you have ventured south of the Border in a time called 'The 80's', Preston Dock had an establishment called 'The Manxman', a floating nightclub based in the old Manx Packet Steamer. Us gels from the local Girl's Grammar School would sneak out at weekends and turn our lacrosse shin pads into ...

There's a plethora of public watering holes with perfectly good cludgies in Lamlash, why waste time carting it all down the street before getting rid? As a lady I have heard of such establishments. Are these not the same places that entrap my skipper into purchasing me a schooner of sweet sherry wh...

If you come across a lot of lights ahead of you and chance upon a harbour guarded by a lighthouse shaped lika woman holding a book you MAY have missed Ireland.

That's happened to me the last time the skipper let me navigate.

But they do have better toilets than Lamlash.

I had an unpleasant discovery after we volunteered to pay the £10 mooring fee in Lamlash last summer. There was an additional charge of 20 english pence to use the only non-male automated toilet. But at least it was supplied with the 'necessary'. Quite a lot aren't

My skipper has asked me to go to the local chandlery in Preston,
(Some like it Yacht) and ask for a phlange truss. Unfortunately he didn't say if it was a left or right-handed one

I tend to only shout in the pink if I lose my temper with the valves on the Rediffusion if they fail to warm up before the shipping forecast - or if I hold the mast in place just as it cuts through the coaxial for the VHF... Oh and as a lady I never swear in pink - except when the boom from an 18ft...

I think you may need to change your sourdough mix. Have you considered one of these quick yeast sachets and fresh bread flour? I've been told my baps are amazing and my Chelsea buns are something to behold.

My skipper likes me to whisper this forecast in his ear as he turns in for the night in his four-poster in his cabin. "Probable nor'easter to sou'west winds, varying to the southward and westward and eastward and points between; high and low barometer, sweeping round from place to place; proab...

Oh! I say, sir!!

Well I daresay I could make a change to something more fitting the colour of my cherries on my Dundee cake!

I trust your strong right arm is for swinging across midships to rescue galley slaves and not, as I suspect, winding up your self-winding watch!

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion to a higher officer, but I have an A-level in domestic science as well as 44 days cooking aboard a boat. Might I suggest that if the previously-used cooking oil (damaged double bonds on the fatty acid strings breaking & linking with passing food molec...

The Internet eh? I must see what that differential machine with the Jacquard Loom punched cards additional memory is up to these days.

Just as long as the skipper doesn't notice I've packed it in my 'Unctions' container.

How does one access this televisual channel? It takes me a while to warm up the valves on my rediffusion 425 lines set so I need some notice.
