Remember that the shoes are not just for the handbrake but also work with the foot brake.

My old Volvo didn't. The foot brake was discs all round, but the rear discs were shaped to make a drum in the middle where the shoes for the handbrake fitted.

Re: Unidirectional handbrake

I had delaminating problems with the handbrake shoes on my old Volvo 940 Estate. Basically, the handbrake is only put on while stationary, so the shoes don't wear. Mine started delaminating at about 15 years old, and they were hardly worn at all. Fitted new shoes which sorted the problem, and they w...

Re: East Coast Cruise

I've done Eyemouth to Arbroath in one day, and it is a lovely marina now. When I was there about 5 years ago, the showers were abysmal. No other word for it, but I believe they've been all done up recently. You have to arrive +/- 3 (or 4, - can't remember) hours either side of HW to get in through t...

Re: Machrihanish

What did she say? Is my memory still good, or am I loosing my marbles? You're correct - the terminal used to be at the beach end of the runway, and to get to it you did indeed cross the runway under lights control. So not losing it at all, good memory. The old road was closed when the terminal move...

Half of them I've never heard of!

What does that make me?
Not a gambler obviously, but I have been known to spend 10p on a raffle ticket in the past!

Re: Machrihanish

Mrs McP, who hails from there, was talking last night about how she had her first driving experiences on the runway at Machrihanish so it seems likely there was a road - this would have been 25yrs ago or thereabouts. I'll ask her later . What did she say? Is my memory still good, or am I loosing my...

Re: Machrihanish

Definitely Machrihanish. I've had a look on google earth as well, but didn't see it. I'd need an image or map from the 70's to be sure.

I just wondered if anyone remembered.

Machrihanish

We spent our honeymoon in a cottage near Machrihanish, and I seem to remember that there was a road which crossed the runway at the airport. It was controlled by trafffic lights, and you actually drove along the runway, or it may have been a taxiway, for about 100 yards or so. Tell me my memory isn'...

While I would be willing to assist in calendar production, since I have plenty time now that I'm retired, my graphics skills are completely non-existant. You'd probably end up spending more time sorting out my co**-ups that if you just did it yourself. I look forward to a new picture on my screen ev...
