Have just emailed another half dozen flag companies - 4 in the US, 2 in the UK.

I will see if I can find out where the "Kippers" get theirs from, they only seem to order in small quantities.

We had a great time, hope to attend the full event in future. Thanks to Ian and Pete for organising everything.
We had a cracking sail back to Kip via Garroch head, with over 8 kts on the log at times and no rain! :)

Can anyone confirm what the wind speed was on Saturday pm off Portavadie ?

Re: AIS

I find AIS entertaining. I must read the book so that I can turn off some of the alarms. I sail single handed quite a lot, and the C80 is at the chart table. I will be sailing along, watching the ferry/cargo ship/whatever and the flippin' thing will start beeping, necessitating a trip below to pres...

Re: Capricious/Amaranthe

I might be down tonight - I have a toilet to rebuild on Capricious - why do I get all the good jobs? I can probably call round, assuming that I don't smell too much! All the best, Pete. Hi Pete, I am leaving Hertfordshire at lunch time so should be in Kip 7pm ish. You can collect the wee dram promi...

Do you have a fridge and or heating on board? I have an electric heater that I use in the marina, but nothing else. I have a little 12V cool box thing which is just big enough for a couple of pints of milk for my muesli and tea in the morning. Then definitely not a Luddite, you sail confidently and...

Depends on where you are, obviously~(reception). The irish seem to get a more comprehensive service than we do, with 'actuals' from weather buoys etc. and, on VHF, they almost 'track' strong winds as they come up the country. As for Navtex, have you selected to receive the transmissions from Irelan...

Re: Spin

I was so impressed, I ordered a pair of Spinlock deckvests! Do let us know how you find them after you have had them for a while - they look great but got some pretty rubbish reviews when they first appeared. a few months on, they are now becoming run in. simple and easy to adjust, once on, you wou...

I berthed next to Touchstone for several years, Mikes main companion aboard was the coal burning stove! I sometimes wonder how many of his cartoons are based upon the characters of Downes Road boat yard.

Re: Socks

I wouldn't normally write a review on something as mundane as socks, but Nick told me to post something interesting. At the beginning of this season my trusty old, and I mean old, socks that I wear with my seaboots started to become holy, but not in a religious sense. I bought a pair of Musto socks...

We came back through in early August last year and caught the hordes returning from West Highland Week which was a big mistake. We only did so because of the strong headwinds forecast. If you go through then Kilmelford is good and more reasonable to sit on a mooring than be paying to be tied up alo...
