Re: Well yer a boring bunch a fannies . . .

We are heading back to Victorian working conditions. Eventually workers will feel so pissed off that Unions will get more members and the balance will swing back a bit, but only enough to avoid a proper revolution. What is really needed is a revolution. Full on "come the glorious day you will b...

So you have a boat in the North now Simon? I knew that you were in the market but didn't recollect that you had bitten the bullet and bought.

Because Amazon don't pay tax and we have to. Because Amazon pay minimum wage and rely on tax payers to top it up to a liveable wage but don't pay tax. And they are a excrement employer basically slave drivers. Because they are all bar a monopoly and I hate a monopoly, free market economy my fornicat...

I don't either. If I could only get something through Amazon I would do without it.

It would really piss me off if buying books through WHS come from Amazon.

Re: Renewable energy in boat cruising

Craobh used to be a secluded anchorage in a pristine bay, now it's a marina and you can't anchor. That's a retrograde step.

Essential services in an anchorage are 0, that's why you go anchor there.

Essential services in a marina vary, many of the ones you list are at best handy to have.

Re: Doirlinn Tobermory update

I never gave it a second thought with the Centaur (3' draught) but I'll have to pay more attention in Seminole (5' 4" draught). We usually got there towards high tide, having caught the flood up the Sound of Mull. Or left through there at about high tide, to catch the ebb down the Sound of Mull.

Sextant

Mum is downsising and today I was sent home with a lightly used Freiberger Drum sextant. It looks like the first one in this article: https://sextantbook.com/category/freiberger-sextants/ It is in a wooden box with a manual an some sighting notes. I have had a look through it but have never taken a ...

Re: Canal newbie

The canal times are published online but vary according to season, it depends when you are transiting. In high season it's something like 09:00 to 17:00 but they shorten the hours and stop Sundays first then the whole weekend. From Tarbert if you leave @ 07:00 you may get in when they open, it's abu...

Re: Jura - Great Canal Journeys

Continuity isn't their strong point. Just because the bay came after Corryvrechan and before George Orwell's place may not place it. Having said that there is bay just north of there which looks promising on Google maps. I thought it may be the bay, that I can't remember the name of, which is sort o...

Re: The nichts

Some knob was on R4 putting the case that we should ignore the Scots and stick with BST. They don't seem to realise that all Europe has daylight saving time and it's not just Scottish crofters to blame. I somtimes dispair for my fellow countymen. Please don't get independence and leave us Northerner...
