Re: Long weekend sailing - what would you do?

Around Jura? Black isles friday, Craighouse saturday, Ardinamir sunday and romp home on monday through Cuan, reasonably sheltered, maybe bit of tide against you on saturday through Sound of Islay if you are early, but its scenic, and some fun waves through cuan on monday before blasting home? A few ...

Re: New pontoons in Oban this year - oh really?

I see from last weeks Oban Times that these pontoons are now unlikely to go ahead , because of planning permission issues??? It does seem like there is some fundamental law of physics that will always prevent Oban having step ashore pontoons. I love some of the comments that have been in the papers ...

I am moving Oban to Ardrossan on the 11/12th , so I may see you around, what route & boat? We are going around the MOK (boat is marginal for the canal).

Re: I've seen one!

One was anchored aft of us in Port Mor, Muck in June, using an anchor setup more lightweight that the one I used to use when cruising in a mirror dinghy as a teenager ( it turned out he was hanging off a ridiculously long, thin, all rope rode). Needless to say he drifted "onto" us in the ni...

Re: Oban Marina

In defense of Oban, I berth there , have done for the last 2 summers. I wouldn't currently p*ss on dunstaffnage if it was on fire. The electricity cards at Oban were introduced because of boats showing up at a berth after the office had closed, and leaving early , without paying. My understanding is...

Re: Round Mull

I thought I saw someone on Rankin's rocks, but they may just have been stuck in a wind hole? I was too busy looking for the breeze at that point. Its starting to feel like the tinkers hole rock should have a pole on it. Glad to hear no damage was done. The instinctive jink of the fleet to starboard ...

Re: Round Mull

Geoff, Having sailed in class 3, and invariably got stuck in a wind hole somewhere - usually near the torran rocks, I could only sympathise yesterday. We just managed to catch the wind past rankin rocks. The Erraid steamer channel caught someone again, which looked sore. We had a stunning weekend of...

Re: Round Mull

You're all believing a weather forecast !!! 3 days out? Mind you how many times has the sunday turned into a driftathon? The 2010 RMR sunday did make up for all the others though. I will wait and see what happens on the day.

Re: Five Gold Anchors award for who?

Yes, a laugh or cry moment. Having skimmed through the award procedure document , dunfannyage fails on several points in my opinion. The much heralded breakwater pontoon is promised this year, but no sign of it yet. I see that the award requires payment from the inspected marina, which makes it wort...

Re: Round Mull

Great pics Andy, we were on Ataraxia one of the dufour 40s, which boat were you on? I really enjoyed the whole weekend, I am amazed at how many times the sunday has been almost windless on previous races, but it was a great run home in the sun, with the radio on and some tennis to listen to. Hard wo...

Ferry pier access in the outer hebrides -NTM

Just noted this on the CYCA website ( a good resource for all kinds of interesting info ) . http://www.cyca-online.org.uk/cm/dynamic/Large/29042013101023.pdf I have never been moored/anchored near to the ro/ro piers when we have been in Lochboisdale or Tarbert , Harris, but I have seen some boats si...

Re: Argyll & Bute Press Statement on proposed transit marina

Well thats a turn up for the books, I guess this is since changes in the council at the elections a few years back? Maybe it is because they have reaslised that Tobermory seems to be forging ahead - proposal for full harbour authority etc - while Oban languishes . Maybe someone in the council has re...
