Re: Back to basics - Clearance under bridges

Bottom of page of tide tables in Reeds lists height of HAT above chart datum, and work out from there, I guess you can interpolate HAT same way as you would standard tidal heights ? Have to admit that I am in the camp that like plenty of clearance. The optical delusion that you are going to hit the ...

Re: Fender board

Thanks for all the help, I was wondering if it needed to be something serious in hardwood, glad that something like scaffold will do the job.

Re: Norway - pointers

Thanks Graeme. We aren't time limited. The boat will be fully crewed, but point taken. We can always take the decision on Norway landfall once we are waiting for weather in shetland.

I was kind of assuming that I would have to redo my regulator and gas setup once in norway.

Norway - pointers

Plans for this summer are Norway, first to the Lofotens, jumping off from Shetland then down to Bergen and back to Shetland over 2 months - June and July in Norway. Have been enjoying re-reading Nicks Blog. Any practical tips or pointers? The boat will be switched over to propane, but my umderstandi...

Thank goodness :-)

I am guessing that the TOP brexit forum finally imploded/went nuclear over the weekend. The moderators all banned themselves, and now no-one can get in the fix the issue.

Free furler bits

I have replaced the profurl furler on my 2004 Dufour 40 this season. The old furler is available gratis to anyone who may want "bits". The foil is in good nick, the drum is "fair" & the top swivel is pretty knackered. Get in touch if you want it. Its lying in a yard near Oban...

Re: Pontoons at Castlebay

All the VB's are still there, 3 are inside the breakwater , and a couple look a little dubious now because of their proximity to the pontoon. I guess a few VB's will be lost when the fingers are in place.

Pontoons at Castlebay

Was over in Barra earlier in may during "summer" - as we chugged up to the VB's a pontoon unexpectedly appeared. A largish breakwater pontoon is in place , with nice walkway to shore. The pontoon fingers to go inside the breakwater are not in place yet, but water and leccky are on the pont...

Re: New pontoons in Oban finally to be built

If the contracts are out, then that means its going to happen. Still not sure I can believe this is going to happen after so much wasted cash and false dawns over the last 11 years I have been following the story. My understanding is they are going in on the north side of the north pier? Its not the...

Re: Rockall experience

I bumped into Jim MacIlraith (Survey one) at Craobh in july, he had just returned from a trip to Rockall in his boat. It may be worth dropping him a line? Maybe he is writing it up for one of the mags.
