Re: Clyde badly contaminated by plastic debris

Very disappointing news to hear about this level of plastics contaminating our local waters. Certainly the River Clyde is not too bad for human rubbish with the GCC scavenging boat the Sea Witch doing a good job within the river. I pass downriver and back to Rutherglen on my annual migratory paassag...

Re: Shock horror Shard is dead member of the SNP

Anchored in there last year. John Paul Jones used to lie/lurk in the wee anchorage according to historical records. Perhaps he founded the SNP as well as the American navy. :oldtroll:

Re: Best hull cleaning fluid

Caravan cleaner from the supermarket Aldi is very good at removing water marks, stains and oxidation from the hull without harming the paintwork. Also very cheap. :oldtroll:

Re: coastguard again

I take it that we are on our own in the Corryvreckan :x . Wonder what the Scottish Independance take is on the coastguard closures as to having a foreign power overseeing our bonny coastline. Actually I have no problem with the changes other than sympathy for people losing their jobs. I fished and s...

Re: coastguard again

My Rescue services contact has said that they find VHF communications with Belfast improved in certain areas in comparison with previous to Clyde. The updating of the aerials has been deemed a success. Also have been informed that Clyde coastguard had previously been " working to rule ? " ...

Re: Crown Estate removes unlicensed moorings from Kilchattan

Nor should they win! I have no time for unlicensed moorings as they can be be dropped in or encroach on recognised anchoring areas. Perfectly happy Old Troll to pay £40 per annum to keep order and control over the coastline . :oldtroll:

Re: Trouble in't Kyles

All has not been well between the Hotel and community in Colintraive for some time. We keep our boat at a mooring as members of the Colintraive mooring association to the west of the hotel moorings area. I am unsure exactly what the issues are, however within the last year or so plans were financed,...

Re: CalMac ch16 alerts

Oh the power of the Blue Moment Forum. On my travels last week from the Kyles to Campbeltown, Lamlash/Brodick with poor weather and good sailing I was interested to hear on every visit CalMac now contacting Ardrossan Harbour on CH16 prior to the usual conversation on CH12. :oldtroll:

Re: Carradale Moorings

The latest on the Carradale moorings is that equipment required to complete the job was inadvertantly sent to a different location by the fish farm people. Perhaps next year. I find the comments about mooring calculations interesting. The tonnage weight indicated on a mooring is not the weight of th...

Re: CalMac ch16 alerts

Talking about the use of CH16 in general and in particular patient Coastguards. On returning to the Clyde from the west coast last week on the Saturday morning I was quite taken by the number of radio checks requested from the coastguard. The coastguard answered every one very proffesionally. During...

Re: CalMac ch16 alerts

Good question. Perhaps Cal Mac have to follow an operating procedure. I find the Ardrossan harbour radio which can often be heard at a distance is an excellent update on wind speed and direction often more useful than the forecasts.

Re: CalMac ch16 alerts

You have just enlightened me  On approaching Oban last Thursday I heard a broadcast from Cal Mac such as you describe. On looking for the boat leaving the Oban berth no such thing happened. I did not realise or have no knowledge of intimation of this latest developement between Lismore and Lady...
