Re: Bulk Purchasing and Buying Power

Got my chain off the boat yesterday and will be dropping it off in Elgin on Monday.
Could I chuck my Avon outboard bracket in too, by the way? Will strip the remaining paint off it first and remove the wooden board, obviously.

Re: St Kilda Race

Hoping to make it along for the cruise in company aspect, but will have a baby on board by then so I somehow don't think the race is going to be on the cards for us!

Re: Selling a MAB in West Scotland.

I sold my vega relatively quickly, using free ads on Apollo Duck and B&O, backed up by a simple wordpress blog where. I could upload much more information and photos. Was well worth the small amount of effort involved.

Re: Bulk Purchasing and Buying Power

Geoff- looks like I will be in Elgin a week Saturday- would somebody be around? Or does it need to be during normal hours?

Thanks, Geoff, I'll get my chain to Elgin asap.

Re: Bulk Purchasing and Buying Power

Hmmm, ok then. I've got about 9m of RSJ to do, obviously I wasn't planning to drive that down to Glasgow. Would you recommend me to chuck my chain in at Elgin, or will the other plant do a better job of it? I was under the impression it had to be done with a spinner but obviously there's more to it ...

Re: Bulk Purchasing and Buying Power

I believe the Elgin galvanisers are the ones to go to with chain as they have a spinner.
I'm getting some RSJs done there later on this year so if anybody wants to chuck their stuff in at the same time get in touch. Don't have a date yet but thinking of getting it organised sooner rather than later.

Re: Your opinion sought

I was able to find stanchions & bases, guardwires, and pulpit and pushpit for my new boat (stripped of these things by previous owner for mysterious reasons)- got everything secondhand from a boat that was being scrapped. So it can work. Anybody on here good with welding stainless? The downside ...

Re: Bulk Purchasing and Buying Power

Mght be in the market for anchor chain, or maybe just re-galv my existing stuff.
Anybody interested in making up their own standing rigging using swageless terminals and a roll of 1x19? The stuff gets considerably cheaper in bigger drums.

Re: Canna questions........

Is that you back home Nick? Was good to catch up. My Mum enjoyed the trip back to Skye- plenty of dolphins, porpoise, and a wee tour around the Shiants along the way. Managed to sail about half the distance and then, ahem, sail the last two miles when the engine died. Which is why you practise picki...
