Peeps might care to read this wee tale by YrsTrly.

I'd thought to offer it to Nick to join t'other half-dozen tales I'd donated to Blue Moment in years past, but Peter Nielsen - 'Sail' Editor - pays better.... :santa:

Re: The Light Blue Book

Akshully, Tonald, me ould fruit, I had been researching articles on The Craigallian Fire..... which my grandfather frequented before - and after - his Spanish Civil War episode.... which turned up some old pieces 'online' in The Herald. One was an journo's appreciation of 'An Leabhar Liath' in the s...

Re: Submarines

A fair few years ago now, Mike B. and I were transiting south down the middle of the Irish Sea in his new-ish Dragonfly 10m. after a Scottish Islands Peaks Race, when the stick fell down in the night. Forestay fitting, AIR. Unsure of the insurance situation, we spent hours battling the blurry thing ...

Re: Your opinion sought

I've scored lots of good gear - used and usually satisfactorily cheap - from the Buy and Sell sub-forum 'somewhere else'. Mind you, for my sins, I live among the Heathen doon sooth. F'r example, last munf I bought a low-mileage midrange Jacobs cradle ( listed at over £1600 ) for £350; another fella ...

Re: Genuine WBS/Exterior Ply and Robbins Timber, Bristol

I can endorse that positive view of Robbins, 'cos.... ....some years ago an elderly couple hand-built a prototype 46' Wharram cat near me, with 'top grade' Marine Ply purchased from Robbins. It emerged that quite a number of sheets had voids, but quite a number had already been built into the struct...

Re: Canna - a story of everyday anchoring folk

. many who think they are securely anchored in Canna are in fact attached only to large balls of kelp I have a vague memory - like most of them these days - of AppiDaze in Canna Harbour about a decade ago when, in an overladen Rival 34 wi' 240' of chain, I ran that lot out, tied a couple of extra r...

Re: Condition surveys for the insurance

I note in my GJW Ts & Cs that they will require a 'self-survey' at next renewal. This has appeared on a friend's new policy, too. It's not hard to maintain a reasonable maintenance log - to show the loss adjuster in time of need - and, as most large claims are broken moorings-related, to e-photo...

On this day.....

I've sailed through those waters time and again, but never without a moment's reflection on the quiet heroism of those souls on the 'Solomon Browne' 34 years ago - and their successors, out on a shout this morning...... http://lifeboatstationproject.com/2015/12/19/penlee-courage-at-christmas/

Re: Kobra anchor

I sent an email of inquiry to the addy shown in a websearch, a couple of weeks ago, asking about availability and cost of Knox's 'ooks. There has been a thunderous silence. I've also been inquiring about the Bainbridge 'Delta' copy, the 'D-Type'. It appears, for those who have an interest in such th...
