Lost a mast in the last year or two?

A trawler has recovered the top 6 metres of a mast ( top to spreaders) in the North Minch, complete with foresail, most of the mainsail, wooden roller boom and a selection of stays. Sailnumber is 1171, sails by Jeckells. A phone call to Jeckells with the serial number has not had a response. Its all...

Re: First Aid Courses for RYA exams

Nick, You are correct- its around 10 years since I did the red cross version which did include hypothermia and drowning, but it seems the syllabus has changed again. The RYA site asks for ''Elementary first aid (STCW A-V1/1-3) '' which I also hold... as I recall it was a one day course at the local ...

Re: First Aid Courses for RYA exams

Anything approved by HSE/ elfin safety.
I did one with the Red Cross when I started with a RYA commercial endorsement- 5 day initial, then one day refresher after (I think) 5 years.
No doubt the refresh rate has changed to make a few quid more out of 'training'.

Julia Bradbury did OK on the Wainwright Walks. And she's easier on the eye than Tom Weir ever was!

Re: ARCS Skipper Charts?

I use both types of electronic charting, ARCS, Cmap and have used Navionics on another boat. I prefer the ARCS format mainly because it's 'familiar' with respect to paper charts. The biggest bug with Cmap for me is the way that placenames can appear and disappear at random depending on the scale. Tr...

Re: St Kilda

Would be just me so wasn't thinking about a charter. Thanks for the links. The Annag might mean a start in N Uist and I'd guess Barra would be easier to get to for me. Flight Gatwick to Glasgow then transfer to Barra. ... Fly Glasgow to Benbecula, 20 minute taxi to Berneray.. but then you miss the ...

Re: St Kilda

Another couple of possibilities, but both are skippered, although Annag might be a possibility for a bare boat:

Re: Whereisit?

Did you sign the visitors book in the cottage? Is it still there?
Last time I was ashore there was probably 5 years ago, and the book then dated back to the 1950's.
