Re: Bad news from Sanda

I have an invite to take a boat round the Mull next weekend. If we have time I'll suggest a stop and let you know.

Re: Does your radio work ?

Ah, it all becomes clear! The radio-checkers are in fact lackeys of socialist ideology attempting to maintain employment in the public sector Tommy Sheridan should get a boat then.....would maybe get him off Buchanan Street when it comes to election time/shouting time and give me some peace in the ...

Re: Off the wall

Nick, if you're there for a couple of days longer and need any supplies brought up, let me know. Turns out I'm in Shetland on Friday so could drop round at lunchtime if you need anything. Would need to be hand luggage compatible. :)

Re: Rig tuning

I have extensive experience here. First, get a tuning gauge. Then, leave Glasgow for Craobh without any of the recommended tensions in your bag. Next, after arriving at the boat find out that the gauge you borrowed is too narrow for the wire on your boat. Tug a few of the lines/wires and see if the ...

Re: Racing Improves the Breed - Part III - The End?

Shame indeed - my sailing skills alone would have made everyone else feel much better about themselves. Just ask Mara. Well, if we pass you around the west coast this year we'll be sure to try and keep pace. If it's upwind, you've got us beat. If it's downwind, as long as there's several miles of cl...

Re: Racing Improves the Breed - Part II

I voted for Oban, simply cos Ogun is most likely to still be in that part of the world. I'll happily crew for anyone on Clyde dates if that's the preferred option.

Re: Twats in marinas

It was unfortunately both the marina staff and the service people on site. Shame - we got a great welcome when we first arrived there and some excellent service last year. We've taken quite some time to track down replacement batteries in the end anyway. Apparently one of the large battery manufactu...

Re: Racing improves the breed - or is it the other way round

I think this should positively encourage the adornment of craft in non-racing appendages and fixings. We have davits attached to Ogun, and enjoy watching the real racers wince whenever they pass us. Ditto the teak decks. I do feel somewhat let down by having to replace our main halyard with dyneema ...

No, Troon. Like you we've always found Kip very helpful, and to be fair we've never had problems with Troon before. Anyway, maybe it was a bad day, but just one I could have done without.

Re: Twats in marinas

Yup, it's the starter battery, the main one is a 110AH thing. She had scribbled all the bits down (phoned me first to check she had the right info) and gone to find out how to go about replacing them. It just seems incredibly rude to then be laughed off and essentially given no help at all, rather t...

Twats in marinas

Why is it they can't be nice sometimes? Mrs McP went to arrange replacement batteries today for the ones that failed during the SIPR. People in the chandlers, and marina office, both laughed her off saying that no way would out little boat be fitted with 12V, 480A, 63Ah batteries, don't be silly dea...

Re: Round the Mull - Sanda and then the outside passage

Um, maybe I've missed something, but I've never gone that close to the cliffs in my times round the Mull. From Sanda, come out and head round and North. On a calm day keep an eye out for the overfalls, on a bit of a blow just ride the swell until it calms down. Remember the tides turn at the Sanda e...

Re: Large oars

It's going to be light winds and a heat-wave this year 'cos Marisca's not entered. Would you mind awfully entering in 2011 please? The light winds and heat-wave forecast came entirely true, and as a result the race was much harder than 2009. I'd rather force 8 than rowing for 16+hrs over the weeken...

Rather embarrassingly, I then searched using the title of this thread, and found it straight away.
