Sailing paintings

Apparently I am to get one of these for my annual notch up the old fart scale, and I have no idea which artists to take a look at. Do any of the learned fellows/fellowesses on here have good sailing pics or prints from people they might recommend?

Cheers,

Andy

Re: COUNCIL DECIDES NOT TO PROCEED WITH OBAN MARINA PLANS

From my in-laws further south in Argyll, apparently the surveyor was down working in Campbeltown harbour the other week doing the prep work for dredging there ahead of putting pontoons and services into the inner harbour, and there are plans to extend the current visitors pontoon using fingers off t...

Re: Round Shuna Race

Sadly the race was cancelled due to high winds - shame as the sunshine was brilliant, but after watching some of the problems boats were having leaving the pontoons and given the large number of shorthanded or family crews, probably the right decision. I finally left the marina at half 5 and the win...

Re: Englishman may wear new hat around the Scottish Coast.

On the hat topic, if anyone finds a Leopard 3 cap on their travels round the west coast, could you let me know? I appear to have lost mine overboard at some point, and nobody now believes me that I had a shot on the boat. Unlike Mrs McP who has both photographic evidence of her at the helm and has s...

Re: Active Captain - to share, or not to share?

Maybe I'm still too much of a newbie, but I like other people's reports on places before I go there. So I happily share what (little) I know on the basis I'm heavily on the 'take' side of the give & take curve while we learn about how to run a boat. With ickle kids on board I'm less likely to ta...

Re: Round Shuna Race

Got the sailing instructions through, looks like a nice wee race. Either way round the island, pursuit race format, and the race rules include that: if [competitors] are seen in the vicinity of the Start Line, never mind cross it before their allotted time, they will be “keelhauled, half drowned in ...

Round Shuna Race

Apparently there's a race round Shuna on the 29th August, with a feeder from Ardfern the day before. Anyone thinking of taking part? I'm tempted to throw in an entry as I have a family-in-law reunion that weekend that I could really do with escaping from.... :)

Re: WHYW Results 2010

They were definitely around till the end of the week, the crew were just popping the boat on the trailer on Friday evening when we arrived in Dunstaffnage. No idea what had happened to their race plans tho.

Re: Oh the shame.....

Well, a few days later and Ogun is now safely back on her berth in Craobh. If ever there was a day to restore confidence then Saturday was it - averaged 5.4 knots all the way home, the engine started first time on leaving Dunstaffnage and approaching Craobh, and inbetween was a lovely sail sitting b...

Oh the shame.....

Tied up in Dunstaffnage after a rather shameful day.... Spent a lovely night in Oronsay at anchor, fishing with the kids and producing alarmingly nice food for the family. Left at 07:30 this morning to try and get ahead of the west highland fleet aiming for maybe crinan at a push. All going well mot...

Ah, knew I forgot something....it's the 2nd so guessing the evening turn will be around 20:30 or so, which is ideal.

Very much appreciated.

Anyone got a tidal atlas to hand?

Thinking of making a dash back to Craobh on the Monday of WHYW after the race, to reunite crew with cars and collect new crew, but have left tidal atlas on the boat and not sure if tides will work for us or not. If anyone has one to hand, could you let me know when the tides turn at Luing to allow u...

Re: Vodaphone dongle - calling Shard, calling Shard . . .

BT claim to have 80% UK coverage (whatever that means), and I presume that their service is piggybacked with a mobile operator. The purely mobile service has been very good to date, but I my home account also gives me free WiFi access to BT FON and BT Openzone when I'm travelling. BT mobile piggyba...

Re: Eigg's non renewable energy

The BBC website article on their problems (their small scale hydro stuff has run dry too) did say that when their renewable supplies run low they have a bank of generators that kick in to plug the gap, so I couldn't see why so much was being made of no toasters....although I guess having an island r...
