Re: SIPR 2011

Congrats marisca, nice result. Shame about Mara, we saw the 'retired' note against their name on the finishing board and did wonder what had happened.

Re: 'Sceptre' in trouble?

Apparently ran aground to the east of the last island in the chain that shelters Craighouse, from what I can gather she sat off to the east but presumably got a bit close at some point. My brother-in-law was arriving into Craighouse and saw her sitting at a very odd angle to the wind... The kids tha...

Re: SIPR 2011

We went down to Troon last night to see my brother-in-law's boat in. Stopped by the office and a few interesting stories... New course record of 32hrs for Obedient, the giant cat. Some incredible sailing times and a very close race all round - the top 4 boats in class 2 all dropped their runners at ...

Re: SIPR 2011

I think they finally got 47 entries in, so about the usual number. Looking at the forecast, I think they should be pretty quick after the runners come off Mull. Last I heard my relatives doing the race had left Oban in 6th, so fingers crossed for them.

Just found http://www.carnethy.com/sipr2011-spray.htm which lets you follow one of the tris round. Given the wind, they should reach some impressive speeds....

SIPR 2011

Best of luck to those entering. I believe Marisca is taking part whereas I'll be jealously following events from behind a keyboard this year. Typically, after a year of gales followed by a year of rowing, this time the weather looks fresh and fast. No doubt if we return in 2012 it'll be mayhem again...

Re: Are canoists the new divers?

Having kayaked for years, I'd generally say that most people that set off on the west coast are usually well equipped, experienced and know their stuff. Certainly I've never met anyone on the water that was horribly ill-equipped. Those that pick up a canoe for £25 and need recued are usually in the ...

Re: sign of the times ?????

Craobh did say to me that they were losing quite a few boats at the end of last season - some heading off for other marinas/moorings, others for the brokers pontoons. The village store there is up for sale too. Kip didn't look that busy on Saturday, but there were plenty still on the hard.

Re: Sad news from Kip Marina

Blimey, that's horrible. Thoughts to his family. He was always great with our kids when they dashed to the chandlers for their usual fix of cookies whenever we were there. And when it came to kit out the boat on our limited budget after we'd bought her, he was a genius for finding secondhand or ex-d...

Re: COUNCIL DECIDES NOT TO PROCEED WITH OBAN MARINA PLANS

But that's not what is needed. If a by-pass was a requirement then the road from Oban to Lochgilphead would be as busy as the road from Connel into Oban, since the traffic would be in transit. I've driven both often enough to know that isn't the case, and therefore the slightly obvious conclusion is...

I'm afraid that if anyone needs to 'fess up to Bavarias on their desktop, it should probably be me...... http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t299/andymcp_photos/test_crop3.jpg Also guilty of Scottish location too. Still, it beats to rest of my collection that I've considered sending in which have blu...

Re: Sailing paintings

Cheers for those - I think Iain's style is more what I would go for....too much detail and the imperfections in the boat might be too obvious ;)
