Re: Next weekend ....

Ken, sorry to hear of your runners' problems. Hope they're ok. Still hearing from boats near front that their trip is slow, ridiculously rainy and tidal gates playing havoc with progress. Some very frustrated crews out there. Apparently Obedient ahead as usual, Blue Chip contemplating retiring after...

Sad news from Oban

A real shame, Sue was a great host every time we'd been to Kerrera. Thoughts to friends and family. :(

SIPR question

I know I'm an infrequent poster round these parts, but got a quick question. I was hoping to participate in this years SIPR, but for various reasons the boat we were going to use fell through. Normally I wouldn't mind, but the race was going to be part of a series of events I'm doing this year for c...

Re: In the dark

My first night sail as skipper was not at all what I expected. I'd done crew duties at night before, but the course, nav etc was all taken care of so I didn't really learn much. So, 2009 and we'd entered the SIPR. Bit windy... Ran the Mull leg, jumped back on board as the night closed in, set off fo...

Re: Sail Argyll

Nick, it might be worth adding a few added entries to the list pages (e.g. Marinas & Pontoons) to see how the formatting holds up. It all looks great on a desktop just now, but on any mobile device the screen restrictions push the latter entries down below the reach of the left hand advert and t...

Re: Deleting users on request

Is it a part of the DPA that has caused the rash of "This Site Uses Cookies" messages which seem to be apearing everywhere recently? Anyone who doesn't know that sites use cookies fall into the same group who don't know that coffee is hot. That's the EU e-Privacy Directive. A pile of nons...

. Can anyone with a greater familiarity with the act enlighten me? Normally, you are obliged to tell a person what information you hold on them - in this case the data they provided at the time of registration plus the secret dossiers you have amassed on each forum member and all their online activ...

Re: Your monthly calendar wallpaper

Would this one be any use for the calendar?

Unfortunately the ones I have of other nice boats sailing in sunshine are portrait rather than landscape.

Hmmm, maybe not so easy then! Further north, I actually expected the pic to be bigger which would make some of the landscape a better give-away...

Re: Unclear intentions

When it came to rowing we had slightly longer oars (not full sweeps) either at midships or on the aft quarters, which could get us up to some form of movement. When we tried towing from a dinghy it was pretty inefficient - the dinghy didn't have enough stability to effectively use the pull on the bo...

. According to no.1 son the Glasgow bus has been well pimped recently . . . The droopy dog ears at the front are affectionately called P45 mirrors, since at £1400 a piece you can be sure what's coming if you return to the depot without one... 3 knocked off so far, allegedly none of them the fault o...

Re: Anybody want to buy a Marina

According to the Oban Times, the marina was running profitably. It's the owner (Shawhead Developments, whatever that is) that has gone bust. From memory, they (Shawhead) had a pretty significant marine/leisure business in the Carib. Never really understood where Oban managed to fit into that empire...
