Re: Condition surveys for the insurance

Strange that GJW are then giving you 15 years since the last survey. I'm with them and they want a survey every 7 years. I'm due one this winter but as I'm planning staying in I'm going to try to get an extension. Anyone had any luck with that?

Re: Ferries and fog

Rules and regs I suspect. Not good if it runs into someone coming out. Arran ferry found it's way to Ardrossan last Thurs evening but wasn't able to enter so headed off to Gourock. It was like pea soup a couple of days last week.

Re: Night time sailing

Even Mid summer can get very cold at 5 in the morn, at this time of year it can be positively Baltic. A hot water bottle stuffed inside your clothes feels fantastic. I would also recommend hats and gloves. It also gets very damp and everything on deck gets wet including you. As said if you can get a...

CMap still working for me, well it would wouldn't it I've still got windows 98 on the boat laptop. Finding Navionics on the Tablet a bit easier. Shame really I like my old Panasonic Toughbook.

Re: Worst 2 or 3 anchorages

best and the worst could be Brodick. I spent flat calm nights there in the shelter of the hills. On 2 other occasions I've had to move after mooring in flat calm but by the time we came out the pub it was blowing a hooley from the east. Twice I've had to move round to the shelter of the Holy Isle at...

Don, It came off a Janneau (symphonie I think). Maybe there's a different number on his main! It will only be used for ghosting - everyone needs a bit of excitement in life... Nick, was thinking about it, but we only carry 4 buckets and I guessed it would need more to stop, so crapped out (NOT) Pet...

Lionheart is just beautiful we got close enough for a great photo just off Largs on 8th of this month. She towered above us as we dipped behind her. The top of my mast was looked like it was just above her 1st set of spreaders. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r279/boobytrapper/Lionheart_zpshhplqt...

Don't know what the improvements are to be at Port Ellen. I was there last year and the pontons were fine and very reasonable.

Re: June 8th

Problem is, once you've had a good set, the cheaper ones with horrible channel selection and poor displays don't really appeal. I couldn't see anything wrong with my handset either, so it's hit and miss as to whether it works when I get it back to the boat. Either a keypad or a rotary selector is a...

Re: June 8th

Strange things sometimes happen with VHF signals, and many improbable/impossible contacts have been reported, but I don't think there are any "rules" we could learn to take advantage of. Ho Hum. Did you ever take the handset to bits for a clean-up? Mine refused to light up on the way back...

[booby trapper] " Still surprised I heard you on the radio On Mon. I was about 10-15 miles north of Peel and you must have been in Douglas. I think you were onto Belfast CG. You were very clear. Any explanations from a radio guru? " I was on to Liverpool CG to report arrival in Douglas as...
