Re: first dusting

No snow, but there was a frost on the deck until about 11.00 on Saturday morning. It was dark by the time I got on board Friday night, although not too cold. Luckily I had banked up the stove before turning in and it was still going strong when I roused. Saturday was a belter of a day after the week...

Is Black Pearl moored in Loch Ridden as I have not seen her there. Black Pearl is certainly moored in Loch R... or at least she was there last I was on board. Len is/was talkiing about keeping her there for the winter but I havn't spoken to him for a few weeks. Plans might change. BTW, another Blac...

Re: Familiar with The Western Isles of Scotland?

Oboesailor, I have attached two .pdf files to an email to the contact address on your website. They are US Navy sailing directions for the West Coast and for the Inner Clyde. Although they are old and under no circumstances should be relied on for navigation, there are some useful snippets such as t...

Re: Ionian Trip

The charter boat looks a bit posher than Flap. In fact the trip looks a good bit more appealing than going round the bottom of Gt. Cumbrae to Tarbert. Mark, what camera for the u/water shots? I was contemplating getting a housing for my Nikon but they're more expensive than the camera. Advice apprec...

Newly picked Bute potatoes must come in for the crown as best potatoes in the world. Although told that Givan pots are the best as they still use seaweed as fertiliser. Ahh... Girvan epicures. The best were the ones scrumped from Chapeldonan Farm by ankle-biters who used to skive off school. They w...

Re: Dubarry repairs?

I just got word from home that a parcel from Dubai arrived this morning.
Sure?
Oh! its not Dubai, its Dubarry.
That's eight days after I sent them off, so a turn-round in four working days.
In my book that is fine service, especially as there are no sovs changing hands.

Re: Dubarry repairs?

Thanks, Donald. That's the boots posted off to Galway after a good conversation with their Customer Relations dept. Assuming its only the stitching that has failed they will repair and send them back gratis. They didn't even ask about warranties or how long I have had them. Despite the works shuttin...

Re: YBW

I got a knock-back using what I am sure was my old login name and pw. It may have something to do with new email address... who knows. I will prolly re-register if only to be able to view pics, not being bothered about posting history. It was interesting seeing the Lounge which I never went into unt...

Dubarry repairs?

Any forumites with any experience of getting Dubarry boots repaired? I have had a pair of Shamrock boots for yonks and the uppers have just started parting company with the soles. Checking prices for new ones resulted in a sharp intake of breath. I recall from somewhere they can be re-soled but I su...

Re: Huggy

There we all thought you were just a sailing man Gordon, then suppose the diesel could just be for ballast :) Tut tut. Heating, of course. I was interrogated as I filled out the declaration about whether I really used deisel for heating because my solid fuel stove chimney had been spotted. As it ha...

Re: Huggy

Like the price of the diesel works out st 74.4 lt on 60/40 split. Anyone got prices for the Clyde. Believe Kip is about 101p on 60/40 and 6/8 weeks ago in Holy Loch paid 86p on 60/40 split. Portavadie last week was £66.46 for 69 litres after completing a 60/40 declaration. I make that 95p a litre.

Re: Crinan Transit next W/E

I shall be heading for the other side 23rd/24th but will be going round the Mull. As a "nae mates" single hander the ditch is beyond me. The (loose) plan is to muster on Friday night at Colintraive with a friend who is taking his boat to the mooring from Ardrossan and deposit him somewhere...
