I wonder why anyone thinks there is a need for such a product/service when there is already plenty of information. They seem to start off as a well intentioned project but then in relying on the goodwill of contributors fall quickly into just another incomplete record. Noonsite is a case in point. I...

I feel that to answer this is to invite bad luck - however speaking from experience - I've used anchor connectors and not had a problem - I check it each season and replaced the last one 3 years ago when I went up to bigger chain. I suppose that between all the boats that sail there won't actually b...

My Dear Silkie No offence intended - I'm changing medication at present and some side effects are apparently inevitable. Actually, there is nothing wrong with the trim of your genoa as the boat was going along sweetly enough and anyone who commented otherwise really should be stuffed with the blunt ...

Donald Thanks for that The finish line should be at 90 degrees to the true wind and just to add a bit of spice I'll put a 5 degree bias at the Port end Finishing boats will know where to come to - I've some roundshot being made just now and will load the bow and stern cannon There will be no rain. C...

I wiz jesting! Plan a is to pick up one of the moorings furthest out where I could get a decent square finish line transiting from the flagpole on the pier - one has to assume that the wind will be blowing straight out of the bay! If that isn't possible then I'll either anchor - which isn't great as...

Shortening course to Duart might be a bit of a sod. I ws thinking that if we are out there on the line and all these boats come in there'll be no moorings left for me so I thought I'd pack a flask and a sandwich and sit out there in the deflating inflatable with my hooter. Dear Heart you might recal...

Au contaire my old Portal....the bold skipper did suggest that he found this lack of water at LW neaps. Now I'm not entirely sure about Balvicar but in most other places that I've been, LW is normally followed by HW at some point and it has been my experience that at HW there is more water - specifi...

As self appointed cruise director, I'm a litle concerned that people lookiing at the July calendar may think I've been neglecting my duties by not advising on sail trim - that main looks a little oversheeted to me abd I'd be obliged if you'd just ease it a tad....

Hi There's a few questions in there and I can give you the answer to 2 at least. You don't need a certificate of competence to sail in UK waters. Parts of the continent do require them but over here you can be just as incompetent as you wish - as most of us are! The basic certificate involves a fair...
