Re: Taking the Plung

It was very comprehensive wasn't it? I would disagree with one tiny element. It is safer, when on your own or short handed to be able to 'dial a sail' rather than going onto a bucking foredeck to change a sail. It is 25 years since I was sailing back from the Isle of Man to Fleetwood in a biggish se...

In 1956

My Dad took me on a trip round Scotland. He had a Vauxhall victor and we stayed at the Prestwick Airport Hotel on the first night then the Regent Hotel on the second. After that we stayed by Loch Ness then down to Edinburgh and home I was just wandering round the internet and had a look at the Oban W...

Re: A riddle

The Duchess when pouring the tea,
Asked "Do you fart when you pee?"
I replied with some wit,
"Do you belch when you sh*t?"
And I think that was one up to me

Re: Taking the Plung

Welcome, At 22 you have time on your side and perhaps need to list your priorities? It isn't the buying of a boat that is the tricky part - it is the running of it that will run away with your pennies. My advice would be to wait a while - the current coronacrisis will produce results we haven't even...

Re: Where is it

My former GP and close friend Dick Jackson first introduced me to the area at that time - he bought debentures or whatever in Craobh - then lost it when they went bust but he kept his boat there SeaRowan - a Macwester Rowan Crown. We did the 1984 Scottish 3 Peaks race in a Sigma 29 (Greensleeves) ch...

Re: A riddle

I often find the questions are more important than the answers. Surely there will be a difference depending on the type of anchor you are deploying - The Bruce (Robert on Claymore) will surely displace more water than a rocna or a cqr so which would mean the water level would go up.....

Of greater concern is that he is clearly in b(r)each of lockdown rules. Even if he'd driven to the Troosers, the walk from there to the site of the photo being taken is way beyond the statutory definition of an hour's exercise a day. Those little legeens of his wid need at least 5 hours to get that ...

Re: Dezinced Propellor and New Propellor

- the Nautical Propanologists Are they the people who have an unusual attraction to red Calor bottles? Well - I was attempting a subtle play on words and having once read that a campanologist was someone who rang bells rather than acting in a rather gay or effeminate manner, I thought ringing prope...
