Re: Seasonal drinks - Edinburgh?

I've not been around for previous knees-ups but might be possible this year. Trouble is, the pubs are full of amateurs at this time of year. I know. That's why I suggested Tuesday as giving the best chance to avoid the crowds. (Though last time it didn't work for the first hour as the place was ful...

Seasonal drinks - Edinburgh?

Anyone fancy meeting up for a pint?

If so, could I start the bidding with a suggestion of The Doric, Market Street, Tue 20 at say 1930?

Re: Jura - Great Canal Journeys

I don't know the area well enough, but wondered if it was one of the bays near Kinuachdrachd. Ash I thought it was the bay just to the north of there, Port an Tiobairt. I've anchored there twice, once this year and once some years ago to view the annular eclipse. It was going to be low in the sky i...

Re: Diesel oil & fan heater

No, I'd to open all the hatches to let the smoke clear, so the boat got colder. Clearing up a diesel spill is a horrible job.

Diesel oil & fan heater

If, when changing fuel filters, you inadvertently tip diesel into a running electric fan heater, the result is a large quantity of grey smoke which sets off the fire alarm. I just thought I would share this useful information.

Re: Kip Boat Show

I planned to go on Saturday on my way home from Craobh - even had a ticket for the RYA free lunch - but was feeling lousy so went straight home and into bed with what's either a very bad cold or possibly flu.

Re: BlueMoment manuals downloads disabled

I have used some of the Volvo manuals, and others - like the GPS data translation program - look interesting, but are still on my "things to look at sometime" list.

The nice thing is knowing it's a resource that's available.

I've just remembered that another lunch stop (with tap) was at the Applecross Basin on the Glasgow Branch. Accessing the tap involved mooring to another boat that looked like it had occupied the spot for some time.

Re: Up to date mooring information

A group of us spent a week on the Lowland canals last year. For the F&C the deal is to phone Scottish Canals the day before to arrange lock and bridge openings: they do all the work, you just motor through. (Quite different from the English canals or, for that matter, the Crinan.) After going up...

Award winning restaurant

The restaurant at Inver, Loch Fyne, which I've mentioned and recommended on here before, has won the AA 2016 Restaurant of the Year - Scotland award.

The chef, Pam, is my cousin's daughter. :D

Re: Have they had a bad experience?

Well reminded. I put this invitation into the mental "do later" box. Now accepted and I have a ticket.

Anyone else going?

Re: Dunstaffnage navigation

I was last there two or three years ago. I called them on the VHF to ask for a berth and, once allocated one, to find out which side to I'd be mooring (I was single handing). The conversation went: "Can I have a berth for the night?" "Yes, you can have a berth." "Which berth...

Re: Jura circumnavigation

Nice one, Davey Don't you just love it when a plan comes together... I couldn't have put it better myself. I saw you in the LOTI last Thursday evening but was eating with a gang. By the time I was able to wander you were gone. Anyway, cheers. Aye, we'd eaten on the road up (at the Tyndrum pub - und...
