She's due back in on 1 April, but I'm taking next week off so, with a bit of luck with the weather, I might be able to get some advance on that. Yourself?

It's a bit unusual for the captain to jump ship!

I currently have at least one, and possibly more, spare berths. Crew so far consists only of Hazard to Shipping (unless she's had a better offer elsewhere!)

Well I think this qualifies as my fastest reply. (Got to do something to reduce the average after the 9 month old one.)

As the saying goes, "Aye, right..." The new Navman models out this year take the Megawide charts and hold more waypoints. A bit like buying a computer - as soon as you do its outdated. If I was starting again I'd probably get the new model with the smaller screen - 5305 from memory - and t...

I've had a couple of "interesting" incidents in Carsaig Bay. On one occasion I was anchored in my previous boat (Etap 22) behind the island on the N side (northerly wind). My pal's E boat then rafted up to me. After returning from the pub a convivial evening followed. I awoke at 0430 with ...

Pre-launch celebrations

I might be about then, but I'm not sure yet.

Not sure about drinking, though - I've had a drink already this year!

Leisure Folio

Fully support plea for re-telling of grounding story! I am convinced there's something odd about the depth representations for Cuan - and the new chart claiming the channel to be 50m wide and 10m deep NE of the Cleit simply deepens (sorry!) the mystery. Now that I think of it, it may even have been ...

Belated update on previous post: I bought the NT+ "Wide" cartridge of the Western and Northern Isles for last summer's trip. There is a fair overlap with my first (now withdrawn) "Superwide" cartridge, but this meant that I could change cartridges either side of the Minch as convenient. The detailed...

If fresh water has been sitting inside for some time you can expect to get a high reading from a moisture meter. I was caught by this when selling my last boat. A cockpit locker filled with rainwater over the winter which then overflowed into the hull, resulting in a surveyor's "high mosture reading...

Competition

Ah but improvements are on the way!

The new mainsail is due to arrive in a fortnight and, depending on the weather, I'm hoping to fit the new underwater secret weapon this weekend. :D

Not at all, sir! Since the Ns to Ms from 2000 went online I've been fully corrected. It's just that before that there were a couple of lengthy gaps when I failed to subscribe to the paper versions. Thus my copy of 2387, purchased in 1984, has no corrections from then to 1998 but is fully corrected t...

On the face of it this looks very good indeed. I must say I had paid little attention to these "Leisure Folios" since they seemed to be only making their way north very slowly. However, now that this has appeared it is clearly worth a proper look. A2 is an inch or so less each way than a single-fold...

I had encapsulated keels on my first boat - a Vivacity 20 (aka, unkindly, a Viscosity). I thought at one stage that I had water coming up them following damage to the bottom of the keels (several seasons of banging down on hard sand with embedded chuckies). In the process of investigation I dug out ...
