Vital Spark

Hi Claymore She's in the basin now, at least. You're right, no doubt the owners made a bit of dosh and spent it in the pub rather than on her. I've seen the VIC32 a few times this year, most recently at Craighouse. Apparently people pay good money for the privilige of shovelling coal into her . . . ...

Did you cruise the Scottish W. Coast this year?

As many of you who sail up here in Scotland will already know, we maintain a list of visitor's moorings and pontoons available here on the W. Coast of Scotland. http://www.bluemoment.com/scotmoorings.html We are always very keen to receive any information that will help us keep this up to date. If y...

It was good . . .

Jura was great, lots of boats there and the whole place mobbed - nothing like a bit of Hebridean peace and quiet . . . Came home via Gigha, Eilean Mor in the McCormacks, Carsaig and Crinan. http://www.bluemoment.com/falandrasmall.jpg 'Falandra' overtaking us leaving Craighouse on Sunday morning - Ni...

Chain

There are two points to consider. First, chain is used for weight and to ensure a horizontal pull on the anchor. In a blow the warp will quickly be pulled up so that the catenary is much less - ie the warp is almost a straight line. If there is sufficient chain between the warp and the anchor then t...

Loch Fyne

Loch Gilp is shoal at its head - which is why there was never a steamer pier there. You can anchor three or four cables North of the harbour at Ardrishaig, but that's about as far N towards Lochgilphead as it's sensible to go. Unless you have a compelling reason to go to Lochgilphead I would strongl...

That's right - osmosis never sank a boat

At least, as far as I know. Anyone want to contradict me? If your boat had serious osmosis the profile of the blisters would show through any paint job. The blisters would be in the gelcoat on the outside of the hull, I've never heard of osmosis on the inside of the laminate. Borrow a moisture meter...
