Re: Bookshelf

. The frameset that controls that book got overwritten at some point when I was using it as a template for something else. I've fixed it now - it should all work. One of the good things about this particular edition is that it includes lots of illustrations - scroll down on the Contents page to see...

Re: Echo Sounder

My transducer is forward of the keel - about as far from the alternator as is possible. Not sure if the proximity of the cable is an issue as long as the cable itself is up to spec. Have you tried the old transducer elsewhere ie where you can eliminate possible causes of malfunction?

Re: Donegal

Beautiful snaps of Donegal - brought back many happy memories of those waters. Thanks for posting.

Incidentally when we rounded Malin Head in 2005 and were crossing the mouth of Lough Swilly bound for Sheephaven, we saw two erormous basking sharks feeding quite close by -wonderful sight!

Re: Changing forestay

1. is the genny hoisted by a halyard on the masthead or through a pulley attached to the top of the foil (and down again to the tack of the sail) 2. maybe a bottlscrew will wind onto the exisiting thread - would that shorten the forestay enough? Sorry for the tardy reply - other things intervened. ...

Re: Changing forestay

I would be tempted to get rid of that ring thing. It looks like a lifeline fitting - wrong shape and design for rigging. Are you sure somebody hasn't made the made the forestay 6" too long and had to throw away a bottlescrew sometime in the past? Is the foil the right size for the sail, or can...

Re: Oxalic acid

I was able to order 1KG tub some time ago from this firm

Tel 01789 778628

1 KG goes a long way when you are mixing at 4 oz to 1 pint.

Think Nick was throwing a bot of friendly banter back your way above....

Re: Changing forestay

I used one of these when I renewed mine 2 years ago - http://www.jimmygreen.co.uk/product_info/sta-lok_eye.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; there is then a clevis pin which anchors the sta-lok to the bottpm of the reefing gear. Changing forestay

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo196/sawdoc_2008/DSCF2062.jpg Hi My forestay is 5mm wire which terminates at deck level with the fitting shown. The top end is a Talurit swage fitting. I would like to do a DIY replacement of the forestay. Obviously one of the end fittings has to be fitted after ...

Re: Cruising guide Ireland to Scotland Iona and thereabouts

I see that Penguin Bolt Holes recommends Port nan Ron near Ardalanish. We went in there temporarily a couple of years ago; it looked sheltered, clockwise, from the NW to E, but you may get some swell. This is a really beautiful spot, and well worth a visit. There are some rocks to watch out for - w...
