Re: St Kilda Challenge

From flat calm the 1st year to a hoolie this year, this event hasn't had the luck it deserves. Maybe next time? As smallest boat in the fleet you must have had the worst pasting - well done for persevering as long as you did. Enjoy your cruise and the ceilidh if you get to Lochmaddy. Better luck wit...

Re: St Kilda Challenge

Start has been postponed until 13.00 with the forecast dropped to a mere 30 gusting 38kts with 3m seas. Ideal R32 weather - go Geoff!

Re: St Kilda Challenge

Race starts at 10.00 tomorrow(Thursday) from Rathlin. Armchair watchers can tune in to http://yb.tl/stkilda2018# to follow the boats. Contender, the Rival 32 owned by our own antipodean anchor maker and all-round good guy, is at present halfway 'tween Pladda and Sanda trogging along at 4.6kts. She m...

Re: St Kilda Challenge

Thanks Geoff. I thought I had turned the batteries off as is my wont but obviously not. Memory suggests I may have gone from 2 to Both rather than 1 to Off. In which case I have had GPS, instruments, VHF all on since Monday and I better do something fast!

Re: St Kilda Challenge

Highly tempting but on 1st thoughts, no thank you. I am still recovering from the SIPR Sound of Jura experience and may never stray from Gourock again. :D

Thanks Geoff and many, many thanks to you and the others who made the event possible and so enjoyable.
I hope you will be turning out for the Ashton regatta on Saturday.

Re: Retirement? My arse!

Two down, one to go. Kip was a waste of time, sad lack of wind with only one race out of 4 any fun - but we hoisted and dropped the chute many times and the sun shone. Then the slog to Oban with a northerly from the MoK up, followed by SIPR with a southerlyish nightmare of nae wind, too much wind, c...

Re: Retirement? My arse!

Does that mean no snow next year? Your blue skies/sun piccies would lose their impact if covered with the white stuff.

Retirement? My arse!

Seeing Claymore is wanting more forum traffic ....... I feel I should be slipping softly into my dotage - slippers, warm fire,Ovaltine before bed, family primed to rush to my bedside - it is, after all, 13 years since I got time off for good behaviour. Instead, I did a single-handed evening race las...

Re: Edinburgh or Greenock to Ardfern?

Panic over. HRH popped round and the trolley fitted into the boot of the bolide nae bother. It's now back in Ardfern. I wonder if there's any one else useful on this forum?

Re: Edinburgh or Greenock to Ardfern?

Highly honoured Ma'am. I note you will be just round the corner from my humble abode on 1st May when you visit Ed'burg Uni King's Buildings. Perhaps you could pick it up then?

Re: Edinburgh or Greenock to Ardfern?

Thanks Shuggy. Crieff is a wee bit out my way, though. The outboard, rather than being dodgy, turned out to be far too powerful for an Avon Redcrest so was passed on to a bigger heavier dinghy - I got a complaint that it wouldn't start a couple of days ago, and no, he hasn't checked the fuel or the ...

Re: Edinburgh or Greenock to Ardfern?

Thanks Bob. There's no great hurry for it to get there and your offer would be a bit of a faff for you. So thanks but no thanks. Try and enjoy your St George's day drive.

Edinburgh or Greenock to Ardfern?

Is anyone heading to Ardfern with a wee bit of spare space. I bought an engine from there and they would like the trolley it was on back. Its just a square(ish) frame with castors and would fit in most cars (if they're not full of sails, cushions, beer, etc.).
Thanks for thinking about it.
