Re: Drinks

May I be vaguely decisive and state Friday 8th December to be the date and, despite Nick's plaintive whines frae the west, Edinburgh to be the locus. That just leaves the choice of hostelry and I am all for tradition and keeping with the Doric in Market St. but, as always, am amenable to other sugge...

Re: SC5616 - a disappointment

If you really gave a **** you would download weekly and update your folio with a hideously expensive magenta pen. The fun bit is when you leave it a bit, start from the oldest change and then find later changes that delete the changes you've just made. You have to decide whether changes matter - did...

Re: SC5616 - a disappointment

NtM = Notice to Mariners. Updates to charts published weekly (monthly?) by HM Hydrographers. Tells you when they do things like adding a red buoy and a cardinal to the Ferry Rocks, etc..
Usually done by the Third Officer.

Re: SC5616 - a disappointment

You're obviously a privileged soul - they've actually advised you when a new edition is to be published, something they have kept close to their chests in the past. As all NtM for previous editions are deleted when the new yin is published we would be well advised to download them now. I'm sure you ...

I think we've all been to the Troosers at some point of the year - is that no enough?

Might I suggest the Oban Inn as a venue?

Just a tad far for us who live in the effete east though. Maybe two separate events are in order.

Re: Drinks

Which bit of "all EU citizens have full round buying rights" makes you feel unwelcome? As far as I'm concerned you should feel free to define the venue and the date - in fact, I propose Ocklepoint as organiser. Any seconders?

Re: Spinnaker up!

Would you lot find some other thread to pollute with your witterings about cups of tea, shandy and Claymore's Claymore Claymore, please? This one was about how macho, brave, seamanlike and generally wonderful Marisca's skipper is, ok?

Re: Spinnaker up!

It was more the wind shift allied with the strength that was the problem. What was going to be a gentle gybe onto Starboard at the Cloch turned instead into a tightish beam reach on port. Serves 2 old farts right for hoisting the thing in the first place! It was a wee bit chilly on the beat down to ...

Re: The Russians are Coming

Etymology: mid 17th century (in the sense ‘perform, practise’): from Latin exserere ‘put forth’, from ex- ‘out’ + serere ‘bind’.

The Russians are Coming

According to the Weegie Herald the son of some Russian oligarch called Strzhalkovskiy, a very close KGB mate of Putin's, has bought Knockdow House and estate on Cowal. That it is cheek and jowl with the Loch Striven NATO pier and oil tanks must just be a coincidence. The WH reckons he is a "yac...

Old money (not for rope)

Had a lovely day of wall-to-wall sunshine on the boat yesterday. Pressure washed the decks - almost as dirty as she was at Port Edgar and went for a motor on the glassy firth and swung my compass. (That was just to make the work-bound jealous.) The point of this post is that I inadvertently found my...

Re: Drinks

Clocks have gone back - time to start Brexit style negotiations over the when and where of the annual Ed'burg festive get-together? My "red lines" are not in w/c 18/12; all EU citizens have full round buying rights; and the North Channel 'tween Noriron and Scotland should be maintained.
