Re: Round Mull Race 2019

It's a wonderful weekend - I highly recommend it. Unfortunately, or very fortunately depending how you look at it, and in spite of my youthful demeanor, I have a daughter celebrating her 40th birthday that weekend. A 3-line whip has been issued and, despite the precedents from the Tory party in the ...

Re: SIPR 2019

I think I can now admit to pangs of jealously as I watched the fleet make it out of Oban Bay. Sad to watch Geoff sail off with MY runners. Compared to other years this one appeared benign - I'm sure I remember F5/6 beating all the way in freezing rain, runners clutching buckets. If I'd only known in...

Re: SIPR 2019

I regret Marisca is not entered. I have had a knee replaced and it's a little too soon for that possible exertion. Geoff Crowley is escorting Marisca's ladies this year but I will be at Oban doing the boat scrutineering so stand by to have your bits inspected.

Then there is the backward running donk spewing black smoke out the air intake.

Re: LED Flares

Strange thing - buying something you hope you'll never use but there we go The good ship Marisca is full of such things - lifejackets, flares, EPIRB, life raft, horseshoe buoys, dan buoy, spare anchor, spare dinghy pump, first aid kit, lots of spare bits and pieces, spare fuel, emergency aerial, an...

Re: Sad coincidence?

The news of Cookie's death is indeed sad. I feel grateful for the help and support I received from her over many years. RIP

Thank you Wales!

Really is the land of my father so not entirely anti-English - brought great cheer to an otherwise dismal telly-watching afternoon. Why, oh why can't our lot play as if they meant it for all the 80 minutes?

Re: Anchor winch woes

Stripped the thing and found water ingress though quite how baffles me all the seals seemed to be intact inside its plastic box. The bottom brush had obviously been lying in a puddle and the spring and support had corroded to the point where it fell off when I touched it. Another of the brushes had ...

Re: Wanted to borrow - GPS aerial

I have a spare Garmin 128 on the boat @JWD if you want to test the other way round. The 128 has an internal battery which can cause problems. When I cracked the screen on one of mine I was pleasantly surprised at the small cost of repair by Garmin.

Re: Anchor winch woes

How many years of unserviced service has it provided up until now? Good question. A mere 8 or 9 years though I did check the gearbox oil level a couple of years ago (it was fine). Further hammer and chisel work has released the brush holder/bearing carrier. One brush is split with the spring wedged...

Anchor winch woes

During last season my Quick anchor winch became temperamental and needed the odd tap with a hammer or winch handle to encourage it into life. I assumed it was worn or sticking brushes like the Lucas starter motors of my youth. Yesterday, I spent a silly amount of time extricating it from the boat an...
