Re: LED Flares

Strange thing - buying something you hope you'll never use but there we go The good ship Marisca is full of such things - lifejackets, flares, EPIRB, life raft, horseshoe buoys, dan buoy, spare anchor, spare dinghy pump, first aid kit, lots of spare bits and pieces, spare fuel, emergency aerial, an...

Re: Sad coincidence?

The news of Cookie's death is indeed sad. I feel grateful for the help and support I received from her over many years. RIP

Thank you Wales!

Really is the land of my father so not entirely anti-English - brought great cheer to an otherwise dismal telly-watching afternoon. Why, oh why can't our lot play as if they meant it for all the 80 minutes?

Re: Anchor winch woes

Stripped the thing and found water ingress though quite how baffles me all the seals seemed to be intact inside its plastic box. The bottom brush had obviously been lying in a puddle and the spring and support had corroded to the point where it fell off when I touched it. Another of the brushes had ...

Re: Wanted to borrow - GPS aerial

I have a spare Garmin 128 on the boat @JWD if you want to test the other way round. The 128 has an internal battery which can cause problems. When I cracked the screen on one of mine I was pleasantly surprised at the small cost of repair by Garmin.

Re: Anchor winch woes

How many years of unserviced service has it provided up until now? Good question. A mere 8 or 9 years though I did check the gearbox oil level a couple of years ago (it was fine). Further hammer and chisel work has released the brush holder/bearing carrier. One brush is split with the spring wedged...

Anchor winch woes

During last season my Quick anchor winch became temperamental and needed the odd tap with a hammer or winch handle to encourage it into life. I assumed it was worn or sticking brushes like the Lucas starter motors of my youth. Yesterday, I spent a silly amount of time extricating it from the boat an...

Re: Suitable sealant for diesel filler hose/tank joint.

Rather than fill the gap would the application of heat (hot air gun?) soften the pipe enough for the jubilee clip to do its job?

The hordes that crowded out the Doric in December were held enthralled as Dave regaled us with his tale. Film rights must be taken up soon.

Will there be a wake?

Along with the rest of you I received Nick's threat of closure today. Not that his dates make any sense - how pissed was he? - but the gist is probably one month to demonstrate how much we need these fora (and, by association, him). The idea that 4 of us would have no way of arranging a drink at yul...
