Re: Drinks

I'm wishing you all well, from a distance, about 250 miles distance.

I have been to Glasgow Scuttlebutt meets courtesy of Ash and the train to toon, but it would make it a dear night with Travelodge thrown in.

I hope you have a good one.

Shetland Sailing Mysteries by Marsali Taylor.

Erica found "Death In Shetland Waters" , #5 in the series, on a book swap pile and brought it home. I enjoyed it so have bought "Death on a Longship & The Trowie Mound Murders" for my reader. They are who-done-it's with some sailing of various kinds thrown in. I like the way ...

Re: Greece

I have had 3 flotilla holidays in the Sporades and one in the Ionian.
I won't be going back to the Ionian, not that I have sailed the Solent, but the Ionian seems just as busy.
The Saronic and Argolic gulfs have been recommended too.

Re: Any news from the west?

Also filling the good anchoring spaces with fee charging moorings is offside. Croabh. What fee charging moorings in Croove? It was an anchorage without anything there. It was pretty and free. There was nothing to increase foot fall to, until someone built the marina and a "village" from n...

Re: Any news from the west?

I may have said this before. The cash/grants for the Oban transit marina was intended to get footfall in the town to spend money. Local boats tied up with folk sat at home spending money where they would anyway isn't going to increase the local economy one jot. The bloke at Campbeltown thought he wa...

Re: Well my Buckos

Stopping on the mooring in TV this year, the insurance seems to agree with me that a swinging mooring in Tayvallich is better than a pontoon in Tarbert. Still got to get the antifouling thing sorted at a reasonable time. Early season when I want to do it yards are full of boats and the management is...

Re: Oban Bay Notice to Mariners

Next they will want to extend "Oban Bay" to the area between Lismore light and Lady Isle. As I was heading to Oban I was overtaken by Hebredean Isles, closely followed "Isle of Mull" or Coriusk approaching the gap and was edging North to leave a big gap between me and Lady Isle w...

Re: Nearest Measured Mile To Craobh Marina

I did it by GPS, two waypoints a mile and a bit apart. Head for one and when a mile away start the run, stop it when you get there. Turn round and repeat with the other waypoint. Ignore the instruction which says that if you are happy with the result you are done, do two more runs and it may save th...

Re: Integrating new and new electronics.

What I ended up with. Speed, trip and depth on an i50 tridata inside. Looks quite lonely because I moved the p70Rs outside where I use the pilot most, the remote can be used inside instead of the other way round. Wind is on a i60 to port outside where I can see it from the tiller. The Axiom 9 plotte...

DSC alerts today.

Motoring past Ardmore today I got regular DSC alerts for something 30 odd miles away bearing 017 degrees. Stornoway were discussing a boat on a rock, no immediate peril but another yacht stood by until Oban Lifeboat got there. After the fourth alert I got the chart out to see where the lat and long ...

Re: Edinburgh or Greenock to Ardfern?

All being well I'm heading from Yorkshire via M6, M74, M8, Erskine bridge to Crinan ish and don't mind diverting the odd few miles. Bearing in mind it's already a 6 hour drive, the diversion is better after the M8 when I have got there. Hamilton services is a frequent pi(ss)t stop so would suit me f...
