Re: Nearest Measured Mile To Craobh Marina

I did it by GPS, two waypoints a mile and a bit apart. Head for one and when a mile away start the run, stop it when you get there. Turn round and repeat with the other waypoint. Ignore the instruction which says that if you are happy with the result you are done, do two more runs and it may save th...

Re: Integrating new and new electronics.

What I ended up with. Speed, trip and depth on an i50 tridata inside. Looks quite lonely because I moved the p70Rs outside where I use the pilot most, the remote can be used inside instead of the other way round. Wind is on a i60 to port outside where I can see it from the tiller. The Axiom 9 plotte...

DSC alerts today.

Motoring past Ardmore today I got regular DSC alerts for something 30 odd miles away bearing 017 degrees. Stornoway were discussing a boat on a rock, no immediate peril but another yacht stood by until Oban Lifeboat got there. After the fourth alert I got the chart out to see where the lat and long ...

Re: Edinburgh or Greenock to Ardfern?

All being well I'm heading from Yorkshire via M6, M74, M8, Erskine bridge to Crinan ish and don't mind diverting the odd few miles. Bearing in mind it's already a 6 hour drive, the diversion is better after the M8 when I have got there. Hamilton services is a frequent pi(ss)t stop so would suit me f...

Re: Autopilot fix or replace, who to go to?

I just re-found this thread and realise I didn't feed back what happened. I went to BEE and they did a good job for quite a bit of cash. But I now have a working autopilot with a remote I can keep in my pocket. Infact BEE came to me, or Seminole, in Tarbert so I had to pay for a couple of nights dig...

Re: WOULD YOU LIKE A WEEK'S FREE ACCOMMODATION IN THE CANARIES?

I thought a day's work for a week's accommodation was a reasonable deal, though it only really makes sense if you are going to be in the area. Sorry I miss read it, I thought it was an awful lot of work for a weeks holiday, you mean several people do a bit of work and get time in the sun for it. Af...

Re: Integrating new and new electronics.

Not done anything yet but will have to get going after Easter. I'm thinking i50 speed and depth inside with i50 tridata repeater in the cockpit. i60 wind in the cockpit, but combining wind speed and depth on a MFD in the cockpit might be an option, I don't know. Having the plotter outside next to th...

Integrating new and new electronics.

last year I replaced my Autopilot with a new Raymarine jobbie, 'coz the old one was broken. Now the depth and log and GPS have packed up, hardly surprising as they are well out of warranty. The speed and depth had a repeaters outside. The GPS was inside and hard to see from the helm. So the task is ...

A quiet night in for me and Stormy, best wishes to you all in 2018, and lets aim for a cracking CC18, even if it's a series of several 3 or 4 crew meet ups.

Re: On the Hunt for first Yacht.

I believe that Chiron, my old Centaur, may be available moored in Tarbert.

She hasn't been used much in the year since I sold her and looks pretty unloved from outside but that's no big deal.

Probably not marketed yet but the owner has moved away to a new venture.
