Re: St Kilda Challenge

Sorry Geoff , can't help, we are doing the sprint (ha!) race on Ataraxia, but should see you about. Hope you get someone.

Free furler bits

I have replaced the profurl furler on my 2004 Dufour 40 this season. The old furler is available gratis to anyone who may want "bits". The foil is in good nick, the drum is "fair" & the top swivel is pretty knackered. Get in touch if you want it. Its lying in a yard near Oban...

Re: Pontoons at Castlebay

All the VB's are still there, 3 are inside the breakwater , and a couple look a little dubious now because of their proximity to the pontoon. I guess a few VB's will be lost when the fingers are in place.

Pontoons at Castlebay

Was over in Barra earlier in may during "summer" - as we chugged up to the VB's a pontoon unexpectedly appeared. A largish breakwater pontoon is in place , with nice walkway to shore. The pontoon fingers to go inside the breakwater are not in place yet, but water and leccky are on the pont...

Re: Oban Marina sold

That is great news for the staff and marina. I hope the new owners have the cash and ability to take it forwards.

Re: New pontoons in Oban finally to be built

If the contracts are out, then that means its going to happen. Still not sure I can believe this is going to happen after so much wasted cash and false dawns over the last 11 years I have been following the story. My understanding is they are going in on the north side of the north pier? Its not the...

Re: Rockall experience

I bumped into Jim MacIlraith (Survey one) at Craobh in july, he had just returned from a trip to Rockall in his boat. It may be worth dropping him a line? Maybe he is writing it up for one of the mags.

Claymore, are you confusing metrology with meteorology? I can sympathise, I have had trouble with my vowels since primary school.

Re: Farewell Oban Marina (Kerrera)?

So its not sold. Story on the marina website news section. Looks like it will go on to 2018 before a sale is considered again, improved ferry service and some improvements in water supply promised. Good to see the excellent staff keep their jobs.

Re: Farewell Oban Marina (Kerrera)?

That is very sad news if its true. That part of the world is starting to state quite clearly that it isn't interested in boating tourism.

Re: Round Mull

Yes Ataraxia will be there, hoping storm spinnakers wont be needed. Cant make the thursday buffet because of inconsiderate tides in sound of luing. What's the betting on a driftathon on the sunday?

Help some rowers

A friend of a friend has asked if anyone can help some lads doing an around Britain row. Their watermaker has broken, and to save time and unnecessary rowing into ports/harbours they are asking if anyone can drop some fresh water to them as they row north from Gigha over the next few days. The boat ...

The heat, the heat

A gentle scoot over to the Garvellachs this weekend made me realise how badly equipped for west coast sailing my boat is. Anyone know how much a bimmini costs? Seriously , crew fighting for the shady spot behind the sprayhood. We folded the sprayhood down to "get the sun" , but then had to...

Re: Oh well forget about pontoons in Oban - again !!

I know Oban doesn't owe any particular section of the leisure industry anything, but watching last year as busload after busload of passengers were offloaded from the Queen Mary onto the scabby, and slippery Oban times slipway to immediately be driven away from the town I do wonder what the the coun...
