Re: Review of 2018

2018 was a short but good season for us. After wintering ashore in Aguadulce we continued with our exploration of the Med in late April. Heading up the coast we eventually went over to the Balearics where despite the stories of overcrowding and extortionate berths we aye found a wee corner to drop t...

Re: faroes charts

I sailed from Edinburgh to Stromness and took in a few days at the Orkney folk festival which was great. I left Stromness with a couple of pals with a light NE to N wind. Tried to sail but ended up motoring the last 100 miles. We made straight to Thorshavn but could have made landfall further south ...

Re: faroes charts

Hi, I was there 2 years ago and used CMap charts which were fine. Imray do a pilot book which unfortunately covers Greenland and Iceland but that said it is enough to get by with. Tides can be quite strong and complex in the fjords for which you can buy a local tidal stream atlas. Lovely and dramati...

Re: oot the way for a while...

I crossed from Edinburgh in May. Real struggle to get out Forth with 25 on nose, wind came round a little but still a motor sail all the way. Only time it was light was during thick fog. When about 30 miles from our landfall at Mandal wind was 30 bang on nose. We'd had enough so reefed and bore away...

Baltic Cruise

After 2 summers on the west coast I'm heading east to the Baltic in May and would appreciate members recent experiences. In particular reasonably priced marinas in Southern Norway and Copenhagen. I plan to explore around Rugen and the Peenemunde into Poland.
Thanks
Iain

Re: More North & West than usual..

Hi Graeme I went to Faroe in June last year. A great place to see with very dramatic landscape and welcoming people. I did not have survival suits but did have an EPIRB as you are well out of VHF range for a fair part of the trip. Weather forecasts were via navtex but lost UK stations quite early an...
