Re: Nearest Measured Mile To Craobh Marina

The only one I can recal seeing was on the east side of Arran and that was a LONG time ago.. GPS, slack water on a calm day instead? Having now briefly read the manual the ST60 is a bit smarter than I thought. There are a few ways to do this linked to SOG and not linked to SOG where the ST60 will c...

Hi,

I need to calibrate my water speed transducer. Where would be the nearest measured mile to Craobh Marina?

Cheers,

Re: Ignorance

I do not think it needed to be debated in parliament, rather farcical outcome I think. Maybe we should all demand that maps are printed at a 1:1 scale in case anyone thinks that the country is really that wee. Then again ..........

Re: Raising the Nancy Glen

Gut feeling is that I would leave the bodies in the deep unless there is a reason to suspect criminal activity in which case, depending on an investigation into backgrounds and suspicion, a call to raise could be made. It is a genuinely difficult decision because most of these boats are supposed to ...

Re: Boatyard to check my keel bolts, chain plates etc?

You need a surveyor who understands the structure and how GRP deteriorates to do the inspections if you wanted a competent opinion. However, to do it yourself is possible. There are good books on the market and second hand which would help you, do a search. There should be no real barrier to you doi...

Re: That's It - The Refit Is Finished

Thans for the best wishes folks.

I passed you on the gangway Wully, I think you were carrying an outboard motor, but with yer waterproofs and beenie hat on I failed to recognise you. It was only later that the penny dropped.

Anyway, the season has just started.

Cheers!

That's It - The Refit Is Finished

Today I completed the installation of the new gas pipe, the last thing to be done on what turned out to be a 3 year on land plus 1 year on the water refit. Just need to service the engine, take all the crap off the boat and clean her up, then off I go. Like all the best plans there is big spanner in...

Re: Ignorance

I learned when I was young what the UK looked liked on a map, curiosity and geography at school. Seeing the islands conveniently placed in a box on a map, say next to Orkney does not make me believe that they are actually just to the east or west of Orkney.

Re: Edinburgh's hotel bed shortage solved

A beautiful ship ruined by an ugly paint job. I knew a man who worked on her for a short period and he told a story about launching the buoys and their mooring gear. The buoy would be placed in the water and the anchor hung over the side with all the chain laid on the deck. The anchor would be relea...

Ignorance

Incredible! The Shetland people want their wind swept and barn islands shown correctly on maps, fair enough. However, a random selection of Scottish People in Edinburgh when asked where Shetland was and to point on a map, did not know and could not point to them on the map. I guess there is no point...

Re: Flu

The jab is a best estimate of the strain that will become dominant in the year that the protection is for. Apparently a person at the WHO uses information to determine which flu is going to be the one. WHO man then tells the suppliers who crank up the vaccine machines and knock out a billion or so j...
