Met Office Web Page Changing - Beta Feedback

The Met Office is changing its web page layout. The Beta version can be accessed from the current web page where you can view some of the new styles and leave feedback. I do use the Met Office Web Page for inshore forecasts and synoptic chart information as well as vanilla forecasts for areas that I...

Jet Stream Map

With the first of autumn's cold spells arriving this weekend it got me thinking about the jet stream and its position. Apparently the jet stream is what drives how the weather arrives in the UK. The link below is a good site for viewing jet stream predictions and when compared with the synoptic char...

Re: Any news from the west?

I may have said this before. The cash/grants for the Oban transit marina was intended to get footfall in the town to spend money. Local boats tied up with folk sat at home spending money where they would anyway isn't going to increase the local economy one jot. The bloke at Campbeltown thought he w...

Re: Interesting plans from Calmac

Norway are also building tunnels and bridges and getting rid of some of their ferries. Norway also has a colossal sovereign wealth fund, maybe the largest in the world and a tiny population. There is no comparison that can sensibly be made between the UK and Norway regarding ferry strategy. A vision...

Re: Well my Buckos

Heading to Kip for the winter to reduce the driving time to the boat but will keep the boat in the water. Spring time will need to haul out for anti-fouling.

Re: Nearest Measured Mile To Craobh Marina

The only one I can recal seeing was on the east side of Arran and that was a LONG time ago.. GPS, slack water on a calm day instead? Having now briefly read the manual the ST60 is a bit smarter than I thought. There are a few ways to do this linked to SOG and not linked to SOG where the ST60 will c...

I need to calibrate my water speed transducer. Where would be the nearest measured mile to Craobh Marina?

Cheers,

Re: Ignorance

I do not think it needed to be debated in parliament, rather farcical outcome I think. Maybe we should all demand that maps are printed at a 1:1 scale in case anyone thinks that the country is really that wee. Then again ..........

Re: Raising the Nancy Glen

Gut feeling is that I would leave the bodies in the deep unless there is a reason to suspect criminal activity in which case, depending on an investigation into backgrounds and suspicion, a call to raise could be made. It is a genuinely difficult decision because most of these boats are supposed to ...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-44322253 The SNP government actions have probably made the situation a lot worse for this family: - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-44322253 The inconsistency is what is pathetic, who gets to decide that a boat should be lifted or...

Re: Boatyard to check my keel bolts, chain plates etc?

You need a surveyor who understands the structure and how GRP deteriorates to do the inspections if you wanted a competent opinion. However, to do it yourself is possible. There are good books on the market and second hand which would help you, do a search. There should be no real barrier to you doi...

Re: That's It - The Refit Is Finished

Thans for the best wishes folks.

I passed you on the gangway Wully, I think you were carrying an outboard motor, but with yer waterproofs and beenie hat on I failed to recognise you. It was only later that the penny dropped.

Anyway, the season has just started.

Cheers!

That's It - The Refit Is Finished

Today I completed the installation of the new gas pipe, the last thing to be done on what turned out to be a 3 year on land plus 1 year on the water refit. Just need to service the engine, take all the crap off the boat and clean her up, then off I go. Like all the best plans there is big spanner in...
