Sell off most of their back garden, leaving only a 3' square space with hard bench seats. A large pole or beam or somthing similar, about 3 feet above ground level, hooked up to a wind vane so that it swings across violently and unpredictably, will add that element of danger they are likely to miss....

Sailing at 2.5kt in light winds. Currently making more West than North to avoid a developing front, expected to pass through Thursday/Friday. Once this has passed they will start to head on a direct track to Finisterre.

It's probably akin to aviation. Every sailor starts out with two boxes, one full of luck and the other, empty, into which goes experience. The trick is to fill the second box before the first is empty.

Either box can be any colour you choose.

Nick is currently tied up to a very rickety pontoon in a howling gale, neither he nor Kath getting any sleep as all their time is spent preventing the boat and pontoon from pounding each other to bits.
