Re: Crinan Canal Closed

We often only open 1 gate, being such a narrow boat, wonder if they might let us thru like that? 2 big boats on boatyard visitor moorings with fenders out, suggests there might be a queue?

Re: Crinan Canal Closed

Just arrived at Crinan to take a shortcut. Maybe not!
Been a tad windy this last few days. 4 tired sailors. Left rum this morning. Lochmaddy morning before.

Re: St Kilda Challenge

Wed night was challenging before leaving the marina. 50 kn measured by handheld on marina. Had dropped to 30 by 1500 when we started in the start window of 1300-1600. Huge seas, 2 reefs, 2 seasick crew, decided enough and followed a competitor to Port Ellen for some sleep. Big boats kept going. Migh...

Re: St Kilda Challenge

Your AIS track suggests you're doing exactly that - not leaving the mooring. Did you leave it on by mistake?

St Kilda Challenge

Due to injury of one crew member (on another boat in the Scottish Islands Peaks Race), I have a vacancy for a crew member on the Rathlin to St Kilda race on 14th June. (about 180 miles) We will leave Gourock on Tuesday evening 12th for Rathlin, race 14th to 16th then on to Lochmaddy for the prizegiv...

Old codger cleans up

Well done to that old codger of this parish who pushed his slaves to sail that Contessa faster than most others in the fleet round the deep waters of Loch Fyne last weekend, to come home laden with trophies and prizes for various aspects of performance. Beat me back to the RGYC moorings last night! ...

Re: Retirement? My arse!

Between Oban sailing club and a ramp on Kerrera if I remember right.
Looks like not a lot of wind, but might be better tomorrow night for the nigh trip to Sanda.

Re: Retirement? My arse!

I'm leaving for Oban and the SIPR on Tuesday night after work. Probably stop at Whiting Bay Arran for 6 hours sleep then round the MoK and northwards arriving in Oban in the small hours Thursday. But if there's no wind we might stop and catch a few more Zs somewhere north of Pladda Luing. Find a par...

Re: RIP Cruiser Uno :(

Flag. https://flagpaints.co.uk/marine/ They have two types, cruising and "performance" I've used the cruising for a few years and it works well in the Clyde and west coast areas I've sailed. Several of us combined a year back and bought a job lot. I'm now down to 2.5 tins left after a 2 co...

Re: Ignorance

I used to live and work in the north (Elgin) and a girl in our office, in her mid 20s had never been as far as Aberdeen or Inverness in the other direction. I suspect there are many Scots who know very little Scottish Geography. Here in Cumbernauld today, I had some ask me "Hey Geoff, You're or...

Re: Gael Force own brand anti fouling paint

I wonder who makes Gale Force's brew? I don't think its Flag, the brand we bulk bought. Contender had that Flag Blue on it last year and despite being quite close to Marisca on a mooring, didn't have more than a wee bit slime at year end on haul-out. In fact there was more above the waterline from t...

Didn't know you could get a shingles jag. Related to chickenpox or summat isn't it?
