Re: Summer Passage Plan

Hyskeir Light is an interesting place to stop briefly on the way, in good weather.

Re: Review of 2018

I missed this thread too - wonder how? Started out in April doing the CCC opening muster, then in May off to Oban rounding the Mull of Kintyre for the 1st of several times that year. Started the SIPR race, but decided not to prolong the misery of one runner, and we turned round near Gigha and went b...

Re: Anchor winch woes

Not on a windlass, but on other DC motors, I've bought oversized cheap brushes for other things, and filed them down to size. A similar case was a set costing over £50 replaced by a £5 set and 40 minutes filing to size. Watch for spring compatibility on the types with springs permanently attached. S...

Re: Jerryca sh

I've used 25l plastic jerrycans (roughly square cross section, handle on top) for times when I wanted to take a lot of fuel. I suspect that the 10l ones would be far easier, though the 25l ones are easy to secure on deck. They're juts manageable to retrieve and bring to the cockpit for emptying into...

Re: Antares charts

For this season coming I just acquired a new toy, tablet running Marine Navigator on Android. I have yet to experiment with integrating Antares.

Re: Where is it?

Some where cold - look its snowing there. Huge flakes too.

My first thought on seeing this was somewhere north of Skye on west coast mainland.

Re: Antares charts

I use Seaclear, and the Antares charts run seamlessly with the ordinary ones.
Only slight glitch is scale. When I go over the boundary of an Antares chart it comes up at too big and I have to reduce size a bit.
I'm on my fourth year of charts, there are a huge number of them now.

Re: Sweeps/long oars

I made 2 oars and have used them 2 years. This first time we rowed from about Salen to Duart. 2 knots. Passed 15 boats to later see them pass us when wind got up again. NOt sure that I'll ever use them again, but they were fun to make and look nice!

Mooring servicing - Clyde?

Since one servicing outfit ceased business, there's maybe only one? Seems pretty busy (doesn't reply anyway). Is there another?

Re: Drinks

Electric charts for Faroes - that sounds good. What voltage (format)? I'd like to get some in .KAP format. Any ideas where to get?

Re: Drinks

I seriously considering Faroes for summer 2019. No specific date yet, but sort of loosely thinking a week to get there, a week there and a week back. Depart Clyde for Stornoway, then on to Suderoy (south end), and meander north through the islands. Similar route back, though Orkney and Caledonian Ca...

Haven't visited here a while, and another year's past.
Is the date settled then?
