Re: Anti-fouling - bulk purchase again anyone?

About to place the order for this paint.
It's going to be £28 per can for cruising grade (choice of colours) and ££53 for performance (hard racing type)
If you want to back out, now's the time to do it.
If you want to join in, hurry up and let me know (preferably email as first post)

Re: Anti-fouling - bulk purchase again anyone?

The chances are now good. Took a while to get a reasonable list of participants. I hope to do it pre Christmas, hopefully during November. I'll be emailing participants soon with details. (It's more positive to deal with each by email that wonder if someone read a post in the way you might have wond...

Re: Am I allowed to luff?

Quite right about the wake. Those hulls must be made to go faster or something, but the Calmac babies (ex Argyll Ferries) are ridiculous. Western seem much more business-like.

Re: Am I allowed to luff?

I've had a silly experience in that vicinity too. I went to the aid of a mobo in difficulty about 1/2 mile NW of Cloch. He did get his engine going, but I was not confident that it would keep running, so I agreed by radio (C16 so ferry could hear) to standby him until he was sure. Western Ferry call...

Re: Forum time quirk?

After eventually remembering my password, I logged in. Still shows UTC as it says, whether logged in or not. On passwords... I now have 127 passwords to remember. Banks, websites, cards, phone, car, burglar alarm, work, leisure. I'm so glad my boat works when raising the sails, without having to put...

Re: welcome anchorages

You know that CCC sailing directions updates are available free on line. You can just look on the CCC website, and get the latest updates. Those are available until a new edition is printed (typically about 5 year intervals), and then it starts again. If its a new chartlet, you can print out the new...

Re: AIS surprise

Loch Dunvegan (Colintraive) sometimes has this problem too, though its torturous windy lengthy course probably renders it unimportant!

Getting there.
Think we're at about 25 cans so far.

Re: Anti-fouling - bulk purchase again anyone?

Flag. Seems to be the company that make for several resellers too, such as the Gaelforce own brand. I have used it for several years now, (the Cruising variety) and it works fine for me. Slime only, which is easily brushed off. I don't know how well it does if you don't use the boat. I see some in m...

Anti-fouling - bulk purchase again anyone?

I'm considering another bulk purchase of anti-fouling. Last time we did Cruiser type only, but I think its possible to do both a cruising type and a performance type. They come in 2.5 litre cans. It would be possible to add varnish too (also in 2.5 litre cans) but I suspect anyone wanting that much ...

Re: Stavanger to Oban - any advice

Well we got there. Four of doing 4hours on 4 hours off in pairs. A headwind mostly, so a long tack south west knowing wind was to go to south, then a better beat north west, coming in sight of Peterhead first then along coast and wanting to stop first at Lossiemouth, we were knackered so called in t...

Stavanger to Oban - any advice

I'm awa to Eberdeen Sunday (free bus you see), to get a flight to Stavanger to help take a boat back to Oban. Anything special to know about Stavanger? Unsure of route, see what the weather says, but either Caley canal or "roon the top". Looks like Cape Wrath is about 100 miles further, bu...

Re: Sailing from Edinburgh

And with a bus pass that's a free bus journey to Gourock.
I'm in West Lothian (not quite Edinburgh). Takes 1h30 by bus, or 1h15 by car, but the car costs a lot more.
