If I had to choose between radar and AIS (I have both) I’d have AIS - as long as I had a good plotter. Saying that if funds were available I’d have a fancy new radar I could overlay on the plotter, with AIS targets in there as well.. As for the CRINAN canal... If the forecast and tides are good then...

I used to work with a bloke who built his own 2 stroke diesel out of an old ford cortina engine - it WAS a wee while ago now right enough.. Anyway, he modified the cylinder head , timing and whatever else and bolted it all back together. Carbs wouldn’t work so he cobbled together a pressurised fuel ...

Could you Mibbies find ‘normal’ cleats that will match up to the holes in the toe rail , won’t matter if they lie parallel to the deck as long as you can get a rope under.

Or maybe some heavy duty aluminium angle iron? Would be longer lasting and slimmer than teak.
