Re: Drinks

Of the dates suggested above suiting Silkie & Ken, I could make 25/11, 8/12, and 9/12. (I'm assuming Edinburgh, rather than Oban.)

Re: Drinks

Clocks have gone back - time to start Brexit style negotiations over the when and where of the annual Ed'burg festive get-together? My "red lines" are not in w/c 18/12; all EU citizens have full round buying rights; and the North Channel 'tween Noriron and Scotland should be maintained. I...

Re: Temporary obstacle in Connel Bay

While I can see their advantage from a maintenance perspective, I must say I don't like tidal turbine designs that involve creating a navigational hazard. At least one boat has already collided with the column design in Strangford Loch - which there is talk of replicating in Kyle Rhea. IMHO there sh...

Re: Boatshow

I was there on Saturday morning for a short visit. Arrived at 0930 to find the start time was 1000, so a wander round the pontoons looking at the second hand boats then visited the RYA section of the Chartroom. Free coffee, but no sign of the promised bacon rolls, and since the sign-in sheet hadn't ...

Re: Camping Gaz

My fat fingers are often spelin things wrong - 'suspects' is correct. Bonfire night used to offer a few opportunities - tying penny bangers together and throwing them at next door's dog was a favourite of mine. We never did get to like each other... Ah yes, bangers... I liked making banger guns. A ...

Re: Mistral is sold

Minor crisis going on at the moment - scooshed intae Is. McCormaig, hopped nimbly up to deploy anchor. Feck all - just a clunk as the motor tripped the breaker. Windlass now languishin on a bench in Ardfern - in pieces an corroded. Whoopie-do. Apologies for delayed reply, but I have a couple of tim...

Re: CC2017

To get back to the original topic, of the three weekends proposed, two are now past. That leaves the weekend of 26-29 May. Who could make that? To start the ball rolling, I'm free!

Re: CC2017

Well On arrival at the boat on Friday I found that nothing had been done. Hardly surprising since at this time of year it's pretty busy. I negotiated a slot first thing Saturday, and took the boat over to the launching pontoon. The crane arrived and a young lad was hoisted to the masthead. No proble...

Re: CC2017

Slight setback to my plans. I discovered at the weekend that my main halyard (wire) wouldn't move. It sounds as the wire has jumped off the sheave, and is jammed along side it. Ash Hopefully so, and fairly easy to fix with access to the masthead. A couple of months ago, with the mast down, I replac...

Re: CC2017

Slight setback to my plans. I discovered at the weekend that my main halyard (wire) wouldn't move. The problem with a fractional rig is that only the main halyard and the topping lift go to the masthead. That would mean going up the topping lift with no independent second rope as safety backup - whi...

Re: CC2017

Avilion should be going in some time this week. (It was booked for 1 April, but I took advantage of the good weather spell to get a bit ahead. I've just realised I forgot to clean off the green marks under the transom: I'll claim it as biodiversity.) So with a bit of luck I'll get her rigged this we...

Re: Well yer a boring bunch a fannies . . .

[..... the Scottish economy would be in deficit (not 15 Bn, but a deficit nevertheless) Sorry Dave, I'm not following your argument. Why couldn't there be a deficit of £15bn? After all, the figures published last year by the Scottish government showed a £14.8bn deficit. Because the GERS figures sho...
