Re: Stern chainplate rebuild - thoughts?

Looks like a reasonable approach. Two thoughts occur. It would probably be best to first make a template out of cardboard to get the internal angles and dimensions right. To avoid letting water or condensation into the laminate I would be tempted to drill the holes through the hull and deck a little...

Re: LED Flares

I've an extensive range of 32" waist breeks that I dream of getting back into, but I've been stuck on 34" for the last 10 years. A few days in bed with the flu last week (despite a free flu jag) have helped, but I'm no quite there yet.

Re: Cleit cardinal and Claymore's Rock

. It will probably just mean more numpties braving Cuan and hitting the rock off the N. end of Shuna. I have (non-sailing) friends who have expressed shock when I tell them there are unmarked rocks lurking in navigable waters, that are a potential threat to passing boats, but for me there are thing...

Re: Sad coincidence?

Sad to hear that. O tempori o mortes and all that. Your sentiments are laudable but your Latin is suspect. Cicero's often-quoted words "O tempora, o mores." mean "O the times! O the customs!", or more idiomatically "What times! What customs!" and have nothing to do wit...

Re: Cleit cardinal and Claymore's Rock

. An unusual view of Claymore's Downfall at LWS, with the new N Cardinal on the Cleit in view. Shows just how narrow the safe passage is. https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/54431937_2334100173279020_5986126899481411584_o.jpg?_nc_cat=103&_nc_ht=scontent-lht6-1.xx&oh=50cdcd40bced76...

Re: Cleit Rock

Whoopiedoo - its have a pop at Claymore time Shirley not. I thought that Cleit Rock already had a perch. It's the unseen " Claymore 's Rock " that needs a marker. It would be pretty hard to hit Cleit Rock, the bow wave around it seems to push you clear. Ash, says the veteran of only 3 tra...

Re: New marina and deep water port for Stornoway

That looks impressive, any idea who's paying for it?

Does Sandwick Marina (shown in yellow) exist currently, or is this additional new development?

I haven't been to Stornoway for a few years.

Re: Rotovector

Thanks for the replies. I'm fairly certain there's just two wires going up the mast, so that would tie in with the DIY diagrams. I suspect that sorting this is going to have to wait until the mast is back up, but I'll have a look with an ohmmeter first.

Rotovector

I'm steadily working my way through the extensive defects list for the new (to me) boat, and starting to think about some of the less essential, but nice to have issues. The wind instrument isn't working. The masthead unit is a rotovector: a three cup anemometer with one cup elongated so that rotati...

Re: Short jaunt

"on port tack on my boat, galley sink goes below water level and overflows into saloon" That brings back memories. My first boat, a Vivacity 20, did exactly that. A cover over the sink meant that this misbehaviour was never seen. It meant that there was always some water sloshing around in...

SW corner of Ardnamurchan?

Having now looked up Fladda-chuain, clearly not.

How about Garbh Eilean, Shiants?
