There's already a pontoon at Flowerdale in Gairloch, which is an ideal jumping off point for Stornoway - at least 10nm shorter than going from Ullapool.

Re: Avy-J - the story so far.

Cheers Sahona,

I have been given an old VHF aerial I am going to use to test the system, but may go for a splitter to simplify things and increase the range.

New marina and deep water port for Stornoway

. The proposal is for a new 80-berth marina behind Goat Island, and a deep water port that can take big cruise ships alonside on the opposite side of the harbour. http://bluemoment.com/pix/stornoplan.jpg http://bluemoment.com/pix/stornopic.jpg https://www.stornowaygazette.co.uk/news/funding-for-the...

Re: Norway - pointers

Re. gas - we took 3 bottles of Camping Gaz because we thought we might have trouble getting it. That lasted us for the month we were in Norway. We intended to go from Shetland to the Lofotens, but bottled it because we couldn't get more than a 3-day window of decent weather. Went from Lerwick to Ber...

Re: Avy-J - the story so far.

Will it pay? As in show a profit? It's a boat, don't be daft! Still planning to offset some of the marina fees in the Canaries by renting her out on AirBnB, but we don't really know a) If we will get there and b) What will happen when we do Not so much a plan as cautious optimism. Brexit isn't like...

Avy-J - the story so far.

. We bought Avy-J (a Morgan Giles 30) for £3,500 in August 2017 using the proceeds from the sale of Catherine's Merc. The plan was a budget ocean going yacht for £10k max that we could sail to the Canaries and use as a Winter hideaway and occasional cruise round the Canaries (+ maybe Madeira and th...

Re: Jerryca sh

. From personal experience, 10l plastic jerrycans are lighter, easier to handle and easier to stow. Get an easy to operate (pump or jiggle-ball) syphon and practice filling your tank with it before you have to do it in a big sea. Rather than having to run the engine unneccesarily I would invest in ...

Re: Brokers- perhaps not a total waste of time after all

I've seen a boat with Mark Cameron Yachts that I want . . .

But it would sadly definitely be a tyre-kicking exercise.

Virtual pint for Ghillie and Fairy . . . .

Taken from the good ship Feodhair (Twister)

On our way to Shetland and Norway in 2010 . . . . the last time Fairwinds 'went foreign' (if we exclude the Isle of Man)
