Eddie,

Thanks for the report, I was wondering where they were.
It has certainly been a tough week, particularly up around Scotland. I am sure they will be glad to get home.

Looks like nice high pressure weather next week at last!

Cheers,

Nigel.

Hi Eddie, As far as I know Carrickfergus is a sheltered Marina, and is also convenient for a quick hop up and across. Should be possible on one tide, perhaps waiting at Gigha for the favourable tide up the sound. When we went up to the Vega rally a few years ago we sailed direct from Ardglass to Cam...

Howth

Just spoke to the Daring Duo. They arrived in Howth ( North of Dublin Bay) at 1030 Local time, after an early morning start from Wicklow. Highlights of the voyage included avoiding the rush hour traffic of fast and slow ferries. They aim to leave tomorrow for Ardglass (N Ireland) with a reasonable f...

Hi Nick and Kathy,

Home safely and just checked the forecast. Looks pretty good for next few days at least. Unfortunately seems to change from day to day.

Did you get the wifi to work in the pub?

Just leaving for birthday dinner and few beers...

Nigel.

Fairwinds looked a bit bow down this morning. They must have slept in the ensuite!

Hi Nick and Kathy, Looks as though you are having a great holiday, the Azores high should be settling down by now. I think we met the people from the Wylo when they were leaving Kilmore Quay. If I remember correctly they had their son with them. We really liked the Wylo, perfect for offshore work. J...

Nick,

Just looking at the 9 day forecast charts.
The Azores high is almost certainly returning to you, rather slowly. In 9 days time they predict it to be established again. The charts show north or northwest winds to be the prevailing direction in the meantime.

Cheers,

Nigel

I have no experience of the Azores, but in our area if you phone ahead to try and book a berth during the busy season you are almost always told that the place is full. Yet I have never seen a yacht refused if you just turn up. Usually smaller yachts have no trouble, often getting the best most shel...

VHF Interference

Hi Nick, Last time I had interference on VHF I simply rewired the aerial plug at back of set. A few wires on outer coax were causing the problem. Probably not as simple in your case, but worth a try. Many aerials also have a connection at top of mast, which is a very bad feature. This connection is ...
