Re: Tunnocks Flotilla May 2nd 2020

I was in the first group for the commonwealth flotilla and made it into prices dock ok, but from what I heard the later groups were carnage. However, there's a lot more space downriver from the tail o the bank, so I don't want to be too negative. If it gives the impression that sailing is for everyo...

Re: Moribund doesn't even begin to cover it

Ma hoose is also in bits. More reason to spend time at the boat.

Why is it that a 1970s house has 40-odd years of really crap DIY done to it that I have to fix before I can actually do any improvements. Why don't these eejits just leave things alone? Is a 1970s boat the same?

Re: The mystery of the invisible politician

C4 already did this with a block of ice. But got dragged through the courts. Anyway, it seems to no longer matter what a politician says or does, if he seems like a good laugh, he gets votes. We have become Italy. Without the food, wine or weather.

Re: small inflatable dinghy

Due to lack of interest so far, I'm doing a black Friday special on this. So any offer whatsoever will be seriously considered just so I can get it out of the garage. Need a pump? Need a set of oars? Then get the dinghy free.

small inflatable dinghy

1.6m compass inflatable for sale, hard transom type with seat, oars, pump and bag. Officially 2-man but realistically 1-man plus either a small dog or a couple of bags of shopping (hence the sale). Ideal for rowing out to a boat on a mooring. Small size means it stows easily in a locker. Used, but r...

Re: Am I allowed to luff?

At least you saw him coming. I've had him come out of Gourock, blind to any traffic coming upriver, right across my bow. I suspect he has a schedule which is impossible to keep to without hammering at full speed in as direct a course as possible, but it definitely has the worst seamanship of any com...

Re: welcome anchorages

Thanks for the reminder about updates to CCC pilot books being available online. I had a quick look out of interest - neither CCC nor WA mentions the new moorings off the pub at Ardentinny. However, for Inverary, WA does have them but CCC does not. I would without hesitation place far more trust in ...

Re: AIS surprise

There's a marine guidance note MGN 321 on the mca website about this. Apparently the software with some commercial ais kit was hard wired to a single heading indicator that meant the forward direction for ais couldnt be switched. So COG is fine, but heading is 180 out. The MGN states this must be fi...

Re: welcome anchorages

Agree that its mis-named, but still handy occasionally if things have changed or new moorings in etc since last visit.
